Thinking of buying...Need some Guidance

Hi Guys,

I am new to this site and currently have a 2005 Audi S4. I am looking to buy a 996TT and have come across this one for sale on Ebay and I needed some feedback on what you guys think about the car.

Here is the link to the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AME WA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190085559768&rd=1,1

I saw the car today and here is the history according to the seller...

Car is currently owned by a Car Dealer that specializes in High-end cars. Car was purchased from an Auction in Feb. 07 and was a "lease trade in". The seller provided me with a CarFax. Here is the link to the report:

http://www.alliance-financial.com/temp/911/911carfax.pdf

Car was in good condition with some signs of wear on the interior though. Front lip is really scratched and needs repainting. Seller told me that front bumper has been repainted but he did not know why. The car does not look like it has been repainted but it does need a detail. Carbon Fiber trim on the dash is peeling, but the seller said that is a common thing in 996's. No records of service available.

I drover the car and it pulls very well. Boost indicated .9 BAR when it was floored.

Wheels are color-matched to Polar Silver, but are Very scuffed and scrapped. They need to be repainted for sure.

I would like to send it to a shop to have them take a look at the car and go throughout it. I know some people at GMG Motor sports in Costa Mesa, CA so I am going to see if they are able to check out the car for me.

So, any thoughts from anyone?? Car seems like a great price for an X50?

Also, if anyone is selling a 996TT in So Cal area please let me know.

Whatever you do try to get a PPI performed by a dealer that has no financial interest in the sale. It will be the best few hundred dollars you can spend....Kevin

I think that with what's going on in the 996TT pricing, its about $3,000-%5,000 high. Especially given the wear that you are claiming.

Car looks nice but the asking price does seem a bit high in today's declining price market for 996tts. As others have and will tell you, if you are serious have a dealership go over it for you. It's better to drop a couple hundred dollars with a dealer than possibly thousands to repair something you were not aware of.
Good luck either way.

Make sure you get the color and options that you like, there are plenty of 996TT out there in that range of price. In your place, I would go for a modded one from the different Tuners that Sponsor this forum. Call them all to see what they have.

Thanks a lot guys! I think I am just going to pass on this one and look for a cleaner car... especially if this is overpriced. If anyone happens to see one for sale, please PM me. I will be looking out in the "For Sale" Section of the forums as well.

Great idea.
There are lots of cars without stories. Buy one with all the records from an owner after a PPI that you arrange far away from his dealership. No need to buy an auction car. If it was such a great deal, why did they send it to the auction?
