I'm new to the forum and thought I would check in. I have been Porsche fan since the mid 70's and have owned an assortment of cars ranging from an SCCA EP Porsche race car up through an 89 930. My wife currently drives a Boxster and I am just about ready to pull the trigger on an 02 Guards Red 996 TT. The car is perfect and has about 25,000 miles on it.
My question - what have you guys done as far as an extended warrantee? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome and input. Based on my limited research and past Porsche experience I may do as Tom suggest - go bare.
NoRoom - a good bit less than half of the original MSRP. These cars are bargins.
I'm looking forward to the car - it is very nice - apparently owned by one **** son of a gun

If you keep the car a stocker and are the type that buys the service
contract at Best Buy for a T.V. then maybe get an extended warranty.
Some of us in the nuthouse of mods and tracking have our cars so
"molested" that the dealer or warranty claims guy wouldnt even know
what the hell he was looking at. Post where you are from and where the
car is and see if a current 996TT owner can go look at and drive the car with you. (Marek is right above, several of us bought a car with 2nd gear pop out issue and didnt know it: cost to repair $4 to 10K !!)
Good luck!

Congrats and welcome.
To get certified Porsche warranty the dealer must sell you the car and you will pay $3-$5K extra for it. Sometimes they will buy it from you , so it appears in their inventory and sell it back o qualify it.
There are other aftermarket companies that will do it, also not cheap and read the fine print.
If you mod it you give all of them a reason not to pay.
I have also owned and still do ,many air cooled P cars since the 70s......These ae very different and as said seem to be bullet proof. I vote no after a good PPI.
Welcome to the waterworld!

I went with Mercury, if I recall price was about $2,500 for their top of the line, NO DEDUCTIBLE Option, with the most coverage. I think they call it Platinum Level. There are also cheaper options. I understand that they are a reputable company-I'm not affiliated with them in any way.
I bought an '02 with just over 7k miles on it last August. The contract is for 60 months, 60k miles. If you do not plan on modding the car (I know that's a big "IF" on this forum) and limit your activities to DEs and Autocross the warranty still applies (my interpretation). This fit my particular needs. I figured that the odds of having something go wrong between now and 60k miles, given the age of the car, was more likely than not. We all know when it goes wrong, it goes wrong in a very expensive way and that $2,500 bucks will seem like a pretty good investment.
Also, it is pretty tough to find a company that is willing to do cars with AWD and turbos, the list gets pretty short.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
