Car washing and waxing for those without much time?

I've always just taken my cars to the main street car wash every few weeks. Even my BMW 740. But not so sure I want to do the same with new 996TT. I'm pretty busy and don't really enjoy washing/waxing cars, so I'm wondering what is the "best" way to keep my new 996TT clean. Should I just wash it every week or two in the driveway ... what's the best stuff to use? I *hate* waxing cars and swore I would never do it again ... but with the new TT of course I want to keep it looking good. I don't know jack about this stuff ... but is there any type of wax etc that is easy to apply and lasts awhile? I hear about zaino, meguirs, ps21 etc ... but is this stuff only good for people who are totally **** about their cars and like to spend 42432342 hours a week cleaning their cars? Because that's not me. Should I just wash it once a week and then take it to a good detailer once a month for a wax job etc??? Help!!

zaino-great polymer based system-takes allot of time and effort
p21s-great shine but only lasts a few weeks in the elements -this is a show wax
pinnacle-great wax

I would search around locally for a good detailer who can take care of the car for you through weekly washes and routine waxes/detailing. That would sound like the best bet to me as it avoids the hassle of you cleaning the car and allows a professional to use the proper products and technique on the car. Hope this helps.

I agree with TCM...also what I do is bring the stuff I like to use to the dealer (Zymol for me) and they take care of it for me.

Good luck.

Zaino's is the easy way to go. They've improved their product with a polish accelerator and only takes minutes to dry instead of hours. Just mix it, apply it with ease, let it dry to a haze and then wipe it of with a cotton bath towel. But, before you do all that. wash you car with Dawn dish soap to remove any wax and dry. I use the clay bar and that only takes a few minutes to do the whole car. I use just about all their car products because it works. After I started using it, Guru came out with a test report about car polishes and Zaino is rated number one and last longer than any wax out their. I repeat the process about every 6 months. Great stuff!

Adams Polishes provided me with a great butterwax for the dark paint on my TT. It also worked well in conjunction with an aluminum oxide scratch remover they included in my kit which took out a small bush scratch on the rear 1/4 panel.

Buddy, you have a black car!! Now you have to put in the money or it will not look good. I work like 70-80 hours / week, so I have little time myself, but, with a black car, your car will look like **** in a hurry if you do not take care of it. I wash my car every 2-3 days, I hate dirty cars. In addition, my detailer buffs out the swirls and adds a new coat of Zymol Councours every month. You are rewarded with a car free of any swirls with a deep black paint that looks like glass. I'm telling you, even a clean black car looks ****ty when it has swirls all over it. My car has zero swirls and looks like glass with the deepest looking paint you can imagine. If you do not want to put in the time best to sell and get silver, I'm not kidding, black not taken care of looks awful. Just my $.02

I don't mind washing it ... but I'll probably have to find a detailer to do the rest. Never owned a car that wasn't black, and don't think I ever will...

You definately know what I mean then. I look in my parking lot at work, lots of nice cars, when the sun is out mine is the only one without those NASTY swirls. It shines the brightest, and the paint looks like glass. IMO, that is the only way to keep a black car. Good luck.

Yeah, luckily out here in Dallas area it doesn't rain much. Between January to March-ish is actually the rainiest time of year ... so right now it just sucks. Rain every few days lately ... so it's almost pointless to even wash the car right now.
