Gas Fillup Question

My car only takes about 11-12 gallons when the needle says empty or close to it (i know it's full because I can top it off until it's totally full). It has always been this way.

Is this normal? Is there a fix or reset button?

Same here. Manual says 16.6 US gallons though so I guess that the gauge and trip computer are very conservative. Need to test your luck a notch further on every tank.

Actually, I have the same question - I could get ~13+ in the C2, almost 14 once or twice, but I'm not sure I've ever hit even 12 in Turbo.. maybe low 11 gallons at most. I'm filling up every 150 miles. I don't mind low mileage, I just hate having to fill up every day....

Same problem here. I took it down to 1 mile to go on the read out and could only put in about 14 gallons until it was completely full. Is there another 2.5 gallons still in the tank at that point?

Reserve tank is usually 2 gallons in almost every car.

M3's are that bad on gas? maybe because they rev so high ?
S4's got V8s though, its amazing that they can get 30+ highway.

Great question. I have noticed the exact same thing when I fill up. Lucky to get close to 12 gallons, and showing 10 miles to empty. I also only get about 140-150 miles a tank.

The accuracy of the fuel guages on these cars (as I've been told) suck!

Mine jumps all over the place and have replaced the sender, etc... and it still is a crap shoot on how much fuel is left. I just look at the mileage now when filling up and make a subconscious note that I need to fill up again at XXX mileage (200 miles from where I'm at then).

So if a fillup is 11 gallons and a 16.5 gallon tank, there is still 4+ gallons in there?

I have always wondered the same thing too as I can only fill-up 10-11 gallons per fill-up. Where is the extra 4 gallons? Pretty strange. Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm going to take a shot and have to say that the S4 is the 2.7TT one.

Ari i dont know how this comes into play, but there is a 4 gallon reserve that is always filled up when the car even goes into the low miles per empty state, at least from what i saw and was told. The fuse blew in my old turbo when i first got it (from removing audio/eletrical wiring in the front trunk) and it was pegged on dead empty with the red light on, i found out that the fuse triggered the safety door in the gas tank and would only allow 4-5 gallons in the tank and no more ??? So if in fact you can only fill up 11 or so gallons when you think its near empty , kind of makes sense right?
