Yet another blown MAF here..
Yet another blown MAF here..
Hey guys,
I know this is an issue with our cars and wondering what the current status is on it? I have a GT640 with the Evo Intake. I have searched and saw that Evo has made a fix on on their intake (incorporating a waffle) but was not conclusive.
So is there are fix from Evo or should I go back to stock intake? Is there an alternative proven MAF besides OEM?
Thanks for the help guys!

I no the feeling. I blew 3 maf's in 3 weeks in my 640 kit. I had to roll around with a christmas tree dash for months. That was until I tested the prototype MAF housing. EVO really did solve the issue with blow MAFs. I no longer am running the prototype in my car. I have have my GT700 for a month now and still no issues. Give Mike at EVO a call. He can take care of you. It will be much cheaper than using the hitachi MAF. Which I believe will need a new ECU flash.

With so many blown MAFs one would think EVO would make the fix available to all clients proactively. I've been watching how things go on this front. Is everyone happy with respect to how the MAF issues have been handled?

Look, I'm not a whiner. They were very good about it and sent it to me for free. Even Speed Gallery was gracious enough to install it at no cost among the many other great low cost services they provide.
But in the end this is my street car, and I can't drive it to the shop (which although very close, is a good 3 hours out of my day due to traffic) every few months for a $250 repair and code reset. I have been very cautious not to turn this car into some tuner experiment. Stock K24s, Bolt on exhaust, off the shelf flash, wastegate spring and an intake box. All in the hopes that he car will be mostly stock and will be fun AND reliable. The freaking chistmas lights spoil all the fun.
I spend thousands on "upgrades". I want to spend that money. I don't want to replace MAFs.

I'm not happy at all. I've blown 3 in a month and now finally I get the waffle fix when it was promised a month ago. If this fix doesn't work, evo Better take care of it with the new maf!

Thanks everyone for getting me up to speed on things. It's baffling that up to now there isn't a sure fix for this problem. I hope that the tuners haven't given up on it either. It seems there is no re-assurance that even with the stock intake the OEM will hold? Anyway, I'm going in to Sharkwerks this week to put in a new MAF and hope for the best I guess. What else to do? I feel bad for those that have had blown MAFs multiple times. I can imagine how frustrating it can get and this is only my first.
Let's all hope there is a sure fix soon!
