Scott, I'm thinking about this mod!! Did you install an LSD? My guy recommended one for the track!! Your thoughts? ....tom

We could also include the difference in weight, different clutch, amount of sound deading material, type of shifter, different intercoolers, lack of a sunroof, factory rolled fenders and lack of a rear wiper. But I was only listing the basic things that pertain directly to handling characterics...which is what he was asking about.

But as far as the tranny...it's the same one, except it has a cover plate on it where the front driveshaft normally protrudes from, as well as an external transmission oil cooler (which is what I assume you're talking about when you say "oil-cooled gears" and "oil-cooler").

Tom,

No, I didn't. If I was tracking my car on road courses, I'd definitely consider it. But for street driving and the dragstrip, I think I'll stay with an open diff.

What is the cost of the removal and parts?
Is the only part needed the plate cover?
I had a gaurd LSD installed less than 300 miles ago, so I am strongly
considering the diff removal.

I was told that all u have to do is take out the axles and the diff is right there... no need for major tranny work...

Yes and the gears are cooled with a oil spray

I believe some disinformation is being circulated. The GT2 tranny does in fact have a "spray bar/sprayer" for additional gear lubrication. It also has a small cooler that is thermostaticly controlled for on/off. The 996tt tranny has neither.

I have never seen a 996tt tranny add the sprayer, mainly due to the cost. I have seen an oil cooler added to the 996tt tranny.

Trannt Oil Pump and mount bar.

Tranny cooler

Connection from pump to tranny case
