anyone do Guard taller gears 1st-6th on the 996tt?

I want to get out of first past 60mph and 4th past 145mph. Im assuming I will need to revise every gear. has this been done. I recall bigbadben did gear revision but I could not find the specifics on it. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

dgussin1 is infamous around these parts
you are aware that this is going to slow your acceleration.

60mph in 1st sounds a little iffy if your redline is at or near stock.

Why not just change the final drive instead of all the gears?

I have a 64mph 1st gear on my sequential gearbox and it is quite difficult to drive on the street. For a track that has 30-50mph exit speed corners it is great but if the objective is to achieve fast 0-60mph it will not work. You will be off boost for too long, unless you have a stock turbo.

Don't waste your time re. the first gear. A taller ratio gearbox will make you go faster except off the line. As Markski said, best option is to raise your rev limiter if the engine is built accordingly.

Suman, Hope that answers your question mate, I already asked Todd about a higher redline...it starts getting expensive.

i would argue w/ some of the above - on a gt750, a taller first gear *would* absolutely help acceleration. 1st gear goes by way too quickly in my gt700.

from bigben's past posts, it seems like a revised 1-4 would result in blazing acceleration on a gt700+ set-up... it sounded like 5th & 6th would be best left stock (or near it.)

(edit: i would love to up the redline of the gt700's 7k or so... 7500 would be *nice*. w/ built internals, i don't see why it couldn't be done.)

As Chuck said we cannot do 7500 RPM with stock internals on a GT700 etc, I spoke to Todd about this. The internals would have to be done first which is a same but be don't want to blow things up do we!

I think what I have done with 1st etc makes a lot of sense and works really well...agreed 5th and 6th could have stayed as is but I am happy with it to be honest as my new programing gets me higher speeds now when compared to the Boxster MAF I was running.

BBB,

We still would love to see your accerlation #'s from 60-130 mph !!!
I thought you had a drift box for awhile?? I looked into taller first few gears
and as BBB can tell you, you are quickly over $10-12,000 for the transmission work only. I am rebuilding mine with new (stock ratio) gears and then adding some steel synchros (to replace the mushy brass ones)

I would love for the program to go to 7500rpm. I have pushed the envelope on this stock motor I think its still in her.
