Help installing B&M ssk
Help installing B&M ssk
Man I must be an idiot LOL. Everywhere and everyone says you can install this thing in about an hour, but I'm not off to a good start. I'm just working off the instructions that came with it and I'm already stuck on step 3 - removing the shifter ****. This is in an 03. It says to use a 5mm hex key or some ***** use a set screw blah blah blah. Well I've lifted up the leather shifter boot and I can't find *anything* that secures the **** on there. And it doesn't seem like it twists off. Am I just a retard? And then looking ahead to step 4 - "unsnap side covers from center console". Could the instructions be any more vague? Which direction do you pull from? I don't want to go breaking off the tabs on every piece I have to remove and have to replace them all. I've installed a B&M in my past 3 cars and never had this kind of problem. Am I a retard? Am I just too scared to mess up my brand new car? Anyway, does anyone know of a more detailed instruction manual for install the B&M and/or removing the rear center console etc that might help me out? Search is down and I need some help here.

did you check www.renntech.org/forums? pretty sure it just snaps off like everything else in the car...
To unsnap side covers on center console (where cd holder, etc. is) I found that the best way is to grab the pieces from behind (i.e. all the way in the fornt of the car) and then push towards the back of the car and pull sideways nad outwards...real easy and they're sort os sturdy so dont worry...
DO NOT FORGET TO MARK THE CABLES BEFORE REMOVING STOCK SHIFTER!!!

Too late ... I already removed the stock shifter. Finally just yanked on the damn **** as hard as I could and it finally came off. Instructions didn't say anything about marking the cables. We shall see ...
Edit ...
OK that wasn't that bad after all. I could probably do it in an hour the 2nd time LOL. I didn't go for a drive yet but everything is back together and all gears seem to engage fine. I wonder why the instructions that come with the SSK don't mention anything about marking the cables? It didn't seem to be necessary in my case, because they didn't really move between the time I unhooked them and hooked them back up. The driver's side cable I just hooked right back up, and on the right side I installed the Evo billet shift linkage piece so I had to mess with that a little, but it was no big thing.
It seems a little notchy but I'd rather have it this way than stock. Does the "notchyness" go away at least a little once you shift a few hundred times and it loosens up a little, or does it pretty much retain the same feel as when its first installed?
