I bet the wheels were photo-shopped on w/ the out of position front caliper when you look at each pic..., but the body appears to be consistent with what's been out there as of late...
the wheels are definitely 19" and not stock. The tail lights are clearly taped over the edge to look smaller. The door handle is pull out (aka Cayenne) and the side view mirrors have a neat fork. the left front caliper is too low (photo shop point is dead on), and the exhaust tips look rectangular, too. I am stylistically not a 993 fan and so these de-evolutionary changes appeal to many, just not me.

the best pix i've seen so far are on rennteam, once we can post pix here easily, i'll bring them over, but my net take on 997 is:
-cosmetic makeover, to me unattractive
-slightly more power if you're a C2 buyer
- no TT for a while
-probably no GT2 or GT3
- price will be high due to exchange rate
so i'm hanging w/ GT2's and 3's until those emerge... 4 years???

The brake calipers do not have to be set in the front, even some GT1's were set up exactly like this picture. I prefer the 993 style over the 996, but I dont even think this front end looks very attractive at all. I really hope they dont take a step backwards like this....if anything they could have come a little closer to what the CGT has on this 997....or maybe they are saving that for the 998?
Looks like Porsche might have gotton the message about the clear side markers though....this one's got them.

Basing final judgment on fuzzy prototype pictures is like validating Ashley Judd's beauty with her wrapped in a potato sack after several week's worth of shaving postponed.
A stock 996 looks pretty poor in my eyes. But when modded right, it looks downright incredible. So wait till the 997 owners have their chance at adding some goodies to the stock body like bigger, deep dished wheels, well-designed aerokits, etc.
I'm sure it will look just as stunning if not more.
My slight disappointment thus far is that it looks too similar to the 996, but we shall wait and see.

Can't wait to see it for real. Some 996 I hate, others I love, most 993 are great ... I guess I'll just have to wait and see ...
Looks good to me though. I like the front quite a bit.

The legend is that Ferry Porsche never like the way the old 911 grew wider at the hips. He is supposed to have favored the smooth sided looks of the originals.
At the same time it is pretty clear the most of the public approves the wider hipped versions (sometimes called "Turbo look") and will shell out cash for the body if not always the turbochargers and wider wheels that inspired them.
I had a 993 C2, loved it and I loved the look. I still think it is the best styled of the old air-cooled 911 series (excepting the earlier RS).
I think they are on the right track and following a template that was laid down over many years with the earlier 911 series. It worked then and should/could work now and in the future.
Incidentally one of the Daytona teams ran the slim sided Cup Car as opposed to thier RSR version 996 on the banking and despite the horsepower loss picked up something like 10 MPH at the top end. So there is no question that the narrow hipped 996 is most aerodynamically effecient.
