996TT Spoiler Malfunction

I got the dreaded spoiler malfunction light earlier today as I hit 75 mph.

I was hoping that it was just a glitch...I had another "beep" on my way home...

Anybody else had this problem... Is there a quick fix to this? or do I have to make an appointment with the dealer?

Oh, btw...I'm not sure if this is connected....I got the CF TechArt Type I Replica from eBay a few months ago...although I never had a problem ...

I have the same problem. The dealer told me that one of the cylinders are leaking and it would cost approximately $2k to fix...it does come up if I push the button.

Get a fixed spoiler/deck lid and you won't have to worry about it. It looks better and it may even weight less.

I got the light and had 911 Design check it out. They lubed the wing lift, whatever that is, and it's been ok so far. They said if it comes on again I may have to replace lifting console. Cost $1200.00

I had a similar issue over a year ago, just the spoiler failure warning light and the spoiler wouldn't automatically retract, but would with the button held down. The dealer looked at it and told me they evaluated the entire mechanism and found a fault in the gauge cluster. They replaced the dash gauge cluster -- invoice was about $2,100 -- and was covered under CPO (thank goodness!).

Good luck with your repair. I hope it's simple, and not too expensive.

Hyde. Didn't get your PM, but check out Carnewal. They have the fixed spoiler including deck lid, plus several other options including just a CF wings. Ask them what other parts you may need (air intake snorkel or a trim peice for the fan). The CF wing with adaptors is about the same as fixing the factory motorized spoiler. You should also get the front spoiler lip to keep the aerodynamics consistant.

Mine too, but its totally inconsistent and actually seems like the spoiler is working fine...i havent worried too much about it.
But if it goes ill go with the fixed (prolly GT2) wing...but can anyone tell me what (besides the GT2 bumper obviously) that balances the aerodynamics in the front?

mine now does not want to go up...for any reason does somebody know if
there is a fuse or "rele" that is related with the spoiler, upper on the fuse box there are a lot of this blac boxes "rele" .

As far as aerodynamic...I believe is not important villains turbo..it has been discussed here before...and a lot of 6peeders usually mix bodykids..

I just came back from the car wash and got the beep and the red warning light on the dash. My spoiler is up and won't go down.

Obviously not as much of a problem as the other way around. Any suggestions?

It sounds like it might be a lubing issue, mightn't it?

Does anybody know what/where to lube and what lubricant to use?

I cleaned mine with WD 40 (it's not a true lubricant but has great hydrophobic properties to help expel moisture). I then used white lithium grease which looks funky but works well. Just clean off the excess after you are done "pumping" it a few times (assuming you can get it to go down/up)...

I've got a CF GT2 add on and I like it down but not up so I may just unplug the thing in the down mode and call it a day...

I have the same problem as well, it happens once in a while, when I turn off the engine it resets itself?? Took it to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out.
My buddy had the same problem last year and he had to get the lift replaced, it ran about $3000, he had the CPO warranty but still had to split the cost with the dealer???
