Hmmm I knew this was a problem, I just did not know this was a severe problem. my car does it every now and then, it annoys the **** out of me. I do have the B&M installed like most of you do. Will they give me warranty pushback? I know it popped out before the B&M install. Does this mean you get a new Clutch?

I had the same problem Darren, in fact, not too long ago. Perhaps 8 weeks at the most. I got a new Tranny out of it. However, to answer your question Eric, no they do not replace the clutch. You can have them inspect and ask them to replace it I am sure at your cost, but at least the labor is on them if you are in the position to need one. I had this done at about 18000 miles and my clutch looked as good as new....so, the new tranny was it. There is a TSB out on this as well, on 2002 and later cars apparently (Or was it 2001?...something like that.). Good luck.

Darren, my car did it every couple of drives when I first got it. I've got the B&M SS, which shouldn't matter. It actually seems like the problem is better now. I replaced the stock shifter with a CF one a few months ago and it hasn't happened. That also shouldn't matter. Yesterday, I was driving it for a while and TRYING to get it to happen by staying in 2nd and it wouldn't do it, so I don't know. I'll ride it out since I've got plenty of warranty left and it doesn't happen much anymore, if at all. It sounds like you should take it in and let us know what they say. The service manager at South Shore told me that the regional rep would have to authorize a new transmission and that was 6 months ago. He was probably lying b/c he said they didn't see this before and I know my accountant had his car there for the same problem months before me.

The idea behind the tranny is the same one behind the engine. Failure of a part or series of parts requires the entire tranny (or engine as the case may be) to be taken apart and then reassembled with no guarantee the problem will be solved, or other problems can develope from the mere act of reassembling the tranny. This can give even the head mechanic an ulcer and tie up the bay for day(s). So in the long run, it is better to replace the tranny. I had a problem with an 01 TT where the timing chain was slapping the steel housing b/c the sprocket was improperly welded. Easy fix is get a new sprocket, but it took the entire engine to be taken apart and I think my mechanic did get an ulcer. Have you ever seen an engine completely apart and neatly spread out? Anyway, I even balked at the new engine and wanted the lemon issue dealt with. But the point is, the simple fix may not be "simple", the dealer may not have authorization to take the engine apart in my case, or may not have the authorization to take apart the tranny in your case depending on what the TSB says and what your problem is. Short answer is get it checked out soon, be clear on exactly the problem and how it relates to the TSB, and if they give you the choice, take a whole new tranny. They may know something in Germany about other damage from the failing synchros and replacing the tranny may not have to do with "parts supplies". Give us follow up.
