Doesnt the motor get broken in on the dyno. (when extensive tuning is involved)
I thought Markski and Scott's cars were broken in by the time
they left Protomotive??

Good luck, Jags.

I just bought a crate motor. The factory runs them for 1hr... I am all about the the down and dirty breakin period. Just seems wrong! I will start my beak in about a week. I was doing plain oil for the first 250miles, 500miles then at 1k miles swith to mobil1. What do you guys think?

I realize I'm the new kid on the block, so take this FWIW. The guy who built my supercharged street Camaro engine (best time slip was 9.47 @ 148) told me to run it at 2k or so for the first few minutes while checking for leaks, etc, then get it out on the road and do 5 part throttle accelerations from 3k to 5k, letting engine braking bring the revs back down to 3k each time.

Then do 5 more serious throttle accelerations from 3k to 5k, again using engine braking from 5k back down to 3k.

Then bring it home, change the oil, and race it. The theory is the same as CJV posted. You want to stress the ring seal on acceleration and deceleration during the first hour of engine operation.

BTW, the guy who did my engines also builds engines for Ben Watson's NHRA Pro Stock car. It may be low tech carbs, but it's also a 500 inch V8 with 1" of valve lift spinning to 10,000 rpm.
