How come no spanked Z06's ?
Nearly still makes you 2nd, comparing a Vette to a Porsche is absurd IMO. There's alot more to cars than "speed", build quality and reliability
Give it up already, go buy a Vette and be happy, I am tired of you and others jumping on the Vettes ***** and bragging about the car, go to the Chevy forum

knowing it was nearly as fast as a seriously modded and very expensive GT2.
Half price and $30 dollar oil changes to be within an as hair of your car and you are unimpressed?

I have read through 17 pages of this stuff and I have come to the following conclusion:
RennTechV12 has the fastest car in the universe, is the "Second Coming" and will be taking the place of Walter R. in the next 10 days as Porsche's test driver.
Drive what the hell you like. I used to bash the Z06 pretty good but had the opportunity to drive one recently and was EXTREMELY impressed. I am selling my 996tt to get into a real estate deal that I can't pass up but later this summer I will be looking for something... and the Z06 will be one that I will give serious consideration to. Is it better than a Pcar? that depends upon what you want out of a car. I have said it before and will say it again, I would have NEVER paid $126K brand new for the 996tt that I currently drive. It is a phenominal car and I love it and will be sad to see it go but it isn't worth anymore than $90K IMO.
Sure, you can mod an EVO or whatever to outperform a GT2 or Z06 but you still would have to look at that ugly *** thing before getting behind the wheel. You get phenominal performance and these looks... STOCK...for $70K. I am not a Z nut swinger...I am a car guy nut swinger and this car rocks..as do the Pcars.

Wow, this threads still going.... just curious, this Ranger fellows pass, how does everyone know the car is "stock"? Did someone do a full NHRA teardown right after his pass to measure all engine specs?? And how about a fuel check? I may not be the best but I have made a living building race motors for 23+ years and have done 100's of post race tech inspections. Unless you pull her down right after the run there is no way anyone can call it "bone stock". Even just putting the motor to the low side of all factory specs will sometimes give you 40+ hp on a engine dyno, and if you want to s- t- r -e- a- c- h the rules much more is possible. Fuel alone is good for 10-15 ponies. Heck, back cut rings, narrow bearings, light oil, acid porting, mild decking, altering valve angles, slightly larger "stock" cams, the list is endless as to what can be done to a "stock" motor. The problem is that if the number was only run by 1 car/person you have to toss that out of the equation, regardless of what type of car you are dealing with. I would even suspect ring times that could not be duplicated by 4-5 different cars. Not that GM or Porsche would ever send in a "ringer" LOL

Strip and dyno numbers are useful to measure the effect of mods and for fragile egos that need frequent reassurance. What many of us care about is driving enjoyment. My tt is more fun to drive than my Vette was.

I have followed this thread from a distance, but intentionally bit my tongue. The fact that this thread has 250 posts and counting speaks volumes. Likewise, it is equally telling that this is but one of ten or more similar threads on 6Speed, all of which have evoked nearly identical debate, hyperbole, invectives, stereotyping and rants. I'm sure mental health professionals would have many interesting explanations for this phenomena.
IMHO, those who simply dismiss the C6ZO6 as a substandard car, without acknowledging its undeniable merits, are being disingenuous, unrealistic and/or delusional. On the other hand, those that dismiss the 996TT based solely on a price vs. performance comparison are equally myopic in their analysis. I will not expand beyond this, as both of these points have been fully explicated (and beaten to death) in the foregoing 250 posts, as well as the ten prior threads.
Otherwise:

Whether you own a 996TT or a C6ZO6, the time has come to cease the bench racing and go enjoy your cars. If you have an opportunity to race one another, post about it for everyone to enjoy.

Craig

HUH? I never claimed to be the world's greatest driver. As a matter of fact, my point was that my GT2 is faster than the Vette regardless of driver.
