I've got a stock 996TT exhaust in my garage doing nothing (and of little value) and I was wondering if anyone has torn theirs apart to see if they can get more out of it successfully?

Anyone try this?

 

I've been thinking the same thing, especially since the popular europipe looks so much like the stock system. I think what happens is that we only end up with the stock system on the floor after buying something else, and then the motivation to tinker with it goes out the window.

I could've sworn Evoms used to offer a modification to the stock exhaust as one of their exhaust options! I don't see it on there any more though.

If I recall correctly, it was pretty pricey for a labour only deal. I think I read that it droned a little too.

Read back through old posts, maybe about 6 months ago. Someone got the idea to drill 1" holes in their exhaust to get a more free-flowing and "sporty" sound.

My eyes are getting old, but there were only 21 hits on "stock exhaust modification"

 

I don't think you want to spend $1600 bucks for a modified stock exhaust. I believe there are 4 cats in the OE exhaust and all that they do is cut out the two near the exhaust tip.

 

Before I put on my Remus 2 years ago, Champion Motors was going to do something to my stock exhaust for a little more sound. I think Ruf has sometimes modified the stock exhaust. Richard Leeds the service manager at Champion might be able to answer for you. 954 920 4020, keep in mind they are the Tubi Reps, so he might not be so forth coming, tell him ritchie berger said to call.

I'm the guy that drilled the 1 inch holes straight back into the mufflers from the tail pipes. Sounds pretty f'in good! I've had so many NA 911's and just couldn't handle the turbo quietness for another minute. I'll try to post some clips. Just didn't feel like spending 5k on an exhaust right now. It sounds good enough to where I may just keep it like this.

Sound is great, but there is a benefit to added flow as well.....

 

Hergeshemier Motors in Orange County modified my old 996 exhaust and it sounded really good - especially for just $750 in labor!

 

What about building straight pipes off the stock exhaust?

 

Any sound clips? Thinking of going this route, at least until i can come up with 5k for an exhaust. If not, maybe i can come take a listen if its still on the car?

 

My car has a modified stock system...I bought it from Ruiner and it was called turboexhaust.com v8.0 - it sounds sik as shiet and you can hear the turbos spool up in all gears and in the tunnels it sounds very similar to that guy in the CGT toolin around in CA....I LOVE it!
