I've driven M cars extensively. My friend recently purchased a 996TT and the car blows the M3 away in every aspect other than storage space.

you'll miss the backseats and the relative anonymity of the M3... but that's about it. 996TT is superior in every other way... wish I had done it sooner

don't even use the backseats! I do like the M's interior though as well as some of the extras.

M3 about a year ago and lot of BMW's in my history. Just got a Cayman S and would do that again and again.

I never fell in love with the 911 but it is a very nice car and wouldn't hesitate if that is you poison of choice.

996 TT is not a supercar by any means.

The m3 is a great car for what it is designed to be, BMW's are far from being as edgy or race like as a Porsche. Performance wise, the two cars are in two different leagues, not comparable. The M3 would be a great first sports car, great performance but still managable.

BMW's are Autobahn cars, Porsches are Nurburgring cars, Nuff said.

I know the performance differences in the cars are not on par and the Pcar is leaps and bounds ahead of the stock M3..... but for $125K I think Porsche should be ashamed of the interior appointments they stuck in that car. Thank god, thats not why I bought it and why I bought one that was three years old. Take a look at an '05 or '06 M3 with cinnamon colored interior and compare it to an '01- 05 996tt. The M car blows it away.

i like you scott, but youre crazy! the interior of my m3 IS in fact cinnamon, but its not nearly as nice as what has been in either of my dad's two 996TT's. the 996 has nicer leather, its fully wrapped in leather from the dash throughout the whole car and just feels more solid. the m3 feels solid but there a ton of room for improvement. the 911 turbo to me is worth every penny new as its got the supercar performance, amazing build quality, fit and finish for a king, and looks that are sexy and unique to 911s. i miss my 911 a lot, but the m3 is pretty damn fun, i must admit, although, the turbo is such a blast to drive, its addicting!

i gotta disagree with you - had an M3 with black nappa and it was the nicest with the best fit/finish of any car i have had and had since

the porsche 996TT interior i had and the 996 C2 interior i have are pale in comparison and just dull and boring, with poor plastics and fit and finish, i have no idea how one can say the opposite, the biggest problem i had when looking for the the 996TT i had was the interior, the 997 is a VAST improvment and a gorgeous example and execution of an interior, the 996 is a toyota designed poor excuse for an interior...

hey man...i call em how i see em. the m3 is good, but no 911. everyone, including myself who has had an m3 or 3 series coupe has had the window trim fall off. never had a prob like that in my C4. i dont think window trim should be falling off on a $60K car. i do think the 997 interior is better than the 996 though.

I traded my 04 M3 two months ago toward an 05 TT S. I loved everything about my M -- until I started driving the TT. IMO, the TT is better in every way, except capacity. If you value a plush ride, then the M is better in that way as well. Personally, I like the interior design on the 996. I think it's curvy and sexy, and with full leather it's rather rich. Porsche's PCM is way more robust than BMW's on-board computer. Porsche's Bose is way better than BMW's Harman Kardon -- by a long shot. But really, you could strip all the amenities out of the car, and I'd still take the TT. It's way way way more fun to drive than the M. The only downside is that far fewer people want to "play" with me on the road than they did when I had the M. I actually see this as a downer because a little friendly competition always made my commute more fun.

And in all fairness, you should know the TT eats oil -- I've had to add about four quarts over the 3000 miles I've driven it. And no, it's not leaking. Also, the TT is eating tires. I'm not sure how quickly because I haven't started with a fresh pair yet, but I believe I chewed through half the rears (SO2s) in 3000 miles.

Get the TT!
