997 Scoop - the real deal guys

I met with a rep From PCNA tonight at the NY auto show - Mike and I went to the Ferrari event there and then were able to walk around the whole show pretty much by ourselves.....
I intrdouced my self to a pcna rep standing in front of the CGT (looks amazing guys) and he knew of the board ....... I said to him "all right lets have it - 997 give me the scoop ! when am I seeing it ! "

Answer - july introduction most likely in portugal - sounded wierd but there you have it - He joked and said nice spy pics on your board by the way LOL

Im starting to wonder if Porsche will introduce a new 997TT or maybe a 996 Turbo 'S'?? Alfie from Ira Porsche was telling me that the C4S will continue to be produced in its current body, so maybe it would make more sense to "beef-up" the current 996TT for the 'S' version and then come out with a completely new 998TT??

Dammit, will they just tell us already??

That is exactly what I have heard is going to happen. Although, I heard that the 997 will consist of the C2S and C4S, and the 996 turbo will be built alongside until 998 comes out? Who knows. I wish they could tell us as well, but, it is bad business, think about it, would there be any demand for the 996 at all if you knew there would be a turbo 997 in a couple months...Not a chance.

Darren,
did you by any chance ask how many cylinders the 997 would have?

I wish they would tell me if there is going to be a 997 turbo so I know whether or not I should wait. How fair is it to the person who wants to be a 911 turbo owner if they go buy one only to find out a couple months later a new one is coming out shortly? Either way, they will still sell turbo's, they should just be more open in the interest of the consumer.

I didn't say it was fair, it sucks to be honest, but, from a business prospective, Porsche needs to protect its dealer network. No one would buy If we knew when new models were coming out. I am buying a 2004 turbo coupe and hoping for the best, so I am basically in the same boat as you although I am a current Turbo owner.

There's no way they would continue to produce 996 Turbo coupes if there is going to be a 997 Turbo coupe. Only the introduction of the Turbo cab shot some life into the 996 platform. If they were producing a 997 Turbo coupe, then it would be the usual few year hiatus, with prospective buyers foaming at the mouth. Already slow 996 turbo coupe sales would slow to a halt if you knew a 997 Turbo was right there. It doesn't make much fiscal sense to have 996 & 997 built at the same time unless there is almost no platform-sharing going on. That might be why they could continue with C4S & Turbo, since the body is the same.
