Who else is in for the long run?
With the high amount of mileage I drive and money put into mods, it looks like I will be keeping my car for a longtime (not to mention, I love the car), who else is in for the long run and why?
Haven't decided to keep my car or upgrade to a GT3. I'm in the same boat because I keep throwing cash into the car but I haven't and won't touch the engine because of warranty issues. I do like this car the more I drive it and it's turning into a daily driver too.
I drive mine almost everyday, and put around 1,500 miles a month on it, since I bought it. I do take it out short trips like chicago, when I go for business. I just can't stop driving the car.
I plan on keeping it for a while, since I am modding it this summer.
I guess I will decide when I see the 997 TT.

I will never sell my GT3 for obvious reasons of relative rarity and no guarantees we will see another one for the US. 997 won't have one, perhaps 998...My next Porsche will be in addition to my GT3.... :-)

I'm keeping mine. I love the car, and with the mods available, it will fill my performance "fix" for many years to come.
I've been told by one PCNA guy that the 997 Turbo is at least two years away, and that maybe it won't even come out as a 997, but instead as a 998 in 2006 or 2007.

I'm in it for the long run... With all the dollars spent on mods I plan on keeping it a long time. The 998TT may change my mind... I'm not sure I want to start over with the 997TT.
I love mine but I will have to give her up in a couple of years when the lease runs out. I have 12K a year, but at the current rate, I will give the car back with 20K miles over the limit at least! Since it's only $0.18/mile, I really don't care. My car has almost 35K miles on it already and I have only had it 20 months.
I am also keeping it for a long long time ... will pick up the 998 turbo when it is readily available (maybe 18 months after release) and then relegate the 996 turbo for other uses such as the track.
why?
1) looks great, with the 997 only looking to be minor cosmetic differences. One of the key advantages of Porsche is that their styling changes are evolutionary instead of revolutionary, therefore keeping the older generation vehicles still looking fresh and not dated. (vs. let's say MBZ SL or S class -- soon as a new one comes out the old one looks very old) Plus 911 design is an all-time classic.
2) power is easily upgradeable and even stock prolly excessive
3) cosmetics can be changed frequently to keep car fresh and appearing new (interior & exterior ... 2 yrs Techart & aluminium interior, then GT2 with carbon fiber, then Gemballa, etc.) -- as with wheels
4) been keeping it well-detailed both paint & interior so car should look "new" for quite a while
5) more experience behind the wheel of a particular car so I can drive it the fastest/safest/best vs. a new guy in a new car.

keeping mine until the 998TT (which could be for a while).
I'll pass on the 997 if it's only going to have an additional 35HP and minor cosmetic changes.
Already at 20K miles in 1 year and 2 months!
