GT3 street faster than Cup Car!
I've tested the GT3 street vs. a GT3 Cup AND the street car has a tick more grunt than the same year Cup car! It apparent that the little extra low end grunt from the vario-cam enables the street version of the cup to giddyup off a corner better. Resulting in a faster mile per hour at the end of a moderate straight.
Shod with the right tires, pads AND alignment settings, this car KICKS MAJOR ***!
TURBO and GT2 owners - sheesh-you'll have your hands full at the next track event when the street 3 shows up! havefuntakechancesdriveporsche-Mark-FORMULA MOTORSPORTS.(.COM)

Im assuming your testing a 04 road car and a 04 Cup car?
The stats dont add up, from memory the Cup car is circa 200kg lighter and has roughly 390bhp than the standard road car, how could it be slower? Were both cars driven by the same driver? Was it raining when the cup went out?
all the best

I think the GT3 owner will have his hands full trying to stay with the Turbo driving to the track in wet weather.
OK dudes, take it easy....
We would all agree that wet weather is not part of my interest in this submission.
I luv my turbo's and GT2's
While I understand the weight difference AND I was the driver of both cars, I was actually surprised myself. Another driver (with experience) would have the same results. You can feel a slight addl kick in the lower RPM range and I comment only based on my experiences. the speed difference wan NOT of major proportions, however it was there!
Look Guys: I never see the need to defend anything I comment on AND I'm into the WHOLE enchalada(?-no I'm no SoCal guy) but it is what it is. The shame of the factory lies in their about turn on initial production content for the cars handling and performance which countered their past position. THIS CAR (GT3) brings them back into the fold for what they were known for-the car's capacity to be driven hard on the street AND the track. With the electonics installed in the Turbo and the lack of equipment such as a limited slip and addl weight, the Turbo labors VERY HARD in track mode. The GT3 rocks in that mode-all day long! nuff said-regards from the center of the universe!

Between this guy and Kevin Buckler, who said the GT3 Street is a few seconds slower than a cup car, I'll take Kevin's input...
Roy
ps. Not only is it 200lbs lighter, it has lower gearing than the street car.

Interesting, odd yet true....Do not take my comparison out of context......the cup will produce a lower lap time...obviously...That was not, in the least, what my posting was to interpreted as.
Re-read it and you will conclude what my intention was, simply it came off certain turns onto a straight and porduced a higher MPH. That, in and of itself it impressive.
Directing my attention to our Charlotte brethren...Please tell us how your brakes hold up on your 996 Turbo with slicks on it AND where do you run it?
In late '00, we tested a Turbo in Europe with slicks and had SIGNIFICANT issues of poor brake performance. We had arrived at the physical reasoning of the poor perfomance and what a lousy job the factory did, based on electronic substitutions for cost controls during production.
I have had success in improving the Turbo (996) braking system for track clients, however it is really a drag as Porsche had (past) always been at the forefront of production car brake systems and their brilliant performance in track conditions.
