They make great daily drivers, racers and winter vehicles. I will drive this one into the ground and then get it fixed - it gives a big fat smile at least twice a day - enjoy the heck out of it. My plan exactly. So, mark this as two of us driving them into the ground....happy every day.
Do what I do. 996TT and a total beater. My other car is a 1996 Protege, 5sp Manual
It may not be glamorous, but it has four seats, >30mpg, reduces my insurance (listed as primary driver), and I won't worry about driving it in the winter (it's not that I'd mind driving the TT in snow, it can take it, I just worry about an accident, I don't want anything happening to my baby).
Best $2800 I ever spent. And I overpaid.

Most days in the TT (when not traveling) - 120 miles roundtrip in and out of NYC. Am selling my MB G (you can see it on Rennlist member classifieds or benzworld.org G forum). I never use it!

Actually reliability has been great - it's never left me stranded - oil changes every 5000 miles religiously, normal maintenance, a couple of bearings, front radiator, front diff (due to front bearing), a cardan shaft, a water pump and that's about it - really in the big picture it's been a GREAT car - again I saw buy it and drive the pants off of it!! The 996TT is my daily driver. The only compromises are storage space and hauling more than one passenger (2 in a pinch). If those are not issues then you will be fine with it as your only car. Well, maybe not fine...more like ecstatic.
Well you being 25 and single and having access to SUV I'd say go for it! It will be perfect for most of your needs until you want to put more then 2 people in the car which may not be often anyway.
Me personally....well look at my sig and you'll see that its not my DD. In fact, my 996TT is an 01 and only has 28k miles on it! I love the car though and gave up my 1400hp Viper over it! Good luck with your decision!

Thanks fellas! I think i could manage just fine w/ the TT as my only car...but like Drew pointed out, my other concern is 'up-keep' costs of a TT. Worse case senario, even with a nice aftermarket warranty, what could i expect to pay for normal service?
$500-$1000 every once in a while is ok, but if were talking about $3500-$5000 for service type crap i dont think i could justify it.
Right now, if i were to stumble upon a 2002 996TT with lower miles, minial (prefer none) mods, 6speed, and Black interior id think REAAALLY hard about it.

You are 25 and Single. This only happens once in your life. If you put it off until later, you will get older, married, buy a house and have kids. Many people don't get the time of have to money to by their dream car. Luckily I could and I have 5 cars. I have a +500WHP FWD 1996 Eclipse which I use to daily drive for about 3 years. Go ahead and get the 996TT. You will never regret it.
You do need to worry about repair bills. Hopefully nothing will go wrong, but if we were all that lucky, we'd spend more money on lotter tickets. New flywheel clutch can be $5k. Anything goes wrong with the engine or tranny and you're out $4k+. Mods are expensive. I don't want to heavily modify my car, but buying an X73 and throwing it on can be $3500 for parts and labor. A single GT3 seat can be $1500. Beware.
