I would say your biggest problem would be storage...like snowboards, gear, beach stuff...having no backseat to uhh....use...as Im sure you already though of that...

Yea, but if i dump my Evo ill just have S2000 which is prally worse than a Turbo for all of those things right?

Well see....and the RS4 is outta reach. Im talkin about a 01/02 Turbo for under 60k (decent miles)....RS4's still higher than that.

I had only the 996tt for a few months and it was fun to drive. However, it just does not hold enough people/stuff sometimes.
I think you need bigger car as a backup if you DD the TT.

I drive mine daily, but also have a big SUV for hauling stuff, people, etc.
I think it would be difficult do deal with as an only car, but it depends on your situation and what you need a vehicle for. If you have a wife, kids, dogs and things to haul around it will get old quickly.

Considering the time of year, I drive mine 99.999% of the time, but NO way would I ONLY own a TT. Need the Jeep for hauling, the dog, snow/bad weather and for when I just wanna drive and not worry about the ride.

In town I drive my 996TT and my 996TT only!

I love every minute of it and I never knew running errands could be so much fun, but I would not take any trip that is more than 40 miles each way in my TT. Last time I tried going to Los Angeles from Orange County taking 5 freeway and it was little too bumpy and little too uncomfortable for my blood hey that what my Nissan Titan is for! You will eventually need a vehicle you could take trips with where you have enough room for your things and rides high and mighty!!!!

Every day.

Every weather.

No problem.

I do use four snow tires on the car in the winter....if snow is over 4"...I borrow the wife's car or just VPN. Life is too short to worry.

See signature.

Boy, am I happy. Best thing I ever did.

I plan to keep this forever. Had a baby seat and booster in the back. ... :-)

These cars are super. The V70 of the wife bails me out if I need something, or I just rent an F150 locally if I really need something for 40/day.

What size/brand wheels and tires do you use in the winter months? I'm debating what to do with my C4S which is now my daily driver - get a 2nd set of wheels with All-season rubber, or just get the tires and have them mounted for winter months... We do get some minimal snow/ice each year a few times, but I'm more concerned about using the Pirelli summer tires in cold weather - probably won't get very good grip even in dry... Am I wrong?

Summer tires in the cold (not even snow) = BAD.

I bought a second set of hollow spokes and (the rears look odd) put Pirelli wintersport 240's on. Not the best snow for snow use, but it handles very well and I wanted a tire that was good at dry roads when cold...I defer to others to pipe in (rennlist has a number of us driving all winter). 265 on 11" rims is a bit odd...I bought the car long distance and had them put on the OEM wheels pre-purchase.....in the future, I might get the 235/295 pirelli 240 combo....but I will wear these out first. Let's put it this way, I had no trouble in a lot of snow if I drove prudently. I have had many an Audi (about 6) and this is like that, more rear biased, but a tank in the snow. The rear engine over the rears actually is quite something in snow if you don't do stupid stuff....go slow, and it seemed to not even think of getting stuck.

Anyway, drove them and confirmed their abilities on the sidewall.... (in dry, cold weather), no issues. Not as sharp as summers, but great.

Good luck.

JB

(so I have two sets of hollow spokes. ...I just love them, amazing wheels...go to tirerack.com, and use the suggested tires....for a 996TT)
(mine are Pirelli 240's....not even that expensive in the big picture...)
(there are some 996 wide bodied wheels for sale on this board, for example, black, for a fair price....grab them and get snows...1400 or so...or get non-OEM wheels and tires via a site sponsor....it is money I did not even think twice about...and I think twice about most things for this car....5000 for an exhaust that I dearly want (EP2L)....etc.)

I have a gas sipping girly man's truck (Ford Sporttrak) for my daily driver. The truck really comes in handy. Some people don't even know I have a TT. But when I want to get sick wit' it, I bust out the turbo.

Drove a TT for the last 5 years and it was my daily driver and only car until I downgraded to the less functional 997GT3. The 996TT is a little awkward going to/from the airport. Also the long trips, say to ButtonWillow or Lancaster for track days, are a little punishing. Grocery store trips can be interesting: Go solo so that stuff can be parked on the right passenger seat. Nothing fits in the front boot other than a helmet and a few containers of oil. Much can be stacked in the back, but that’ll block your view from the rear view mirror. Ski’s are impossible unless stored on the top of the car. In the five years I had 996TT’s, I cannot think of once I needed to borrow something bigger.

If you think a 996TT is bad, you need to troll around in a GT3. The 996TT is a rolling sofa compared to the GT3.

Addendum: I'm in San Diego and the weather is not an issue. I don't know what 'snow' is. It's white correct?
