For example, the cheapest exhaust it $3500.
I found the hard way, by buying used, that a flywheel replacement can be just around the corner. I had the car for two days before the clutch started slipping. Shop said the flywheel was beaten to hell.

And yes, engine and tranny failures are rare, but whenever someone with a problem like that posts to 6so or RL, doesn't everyone always post "You shouldn't be driving this car if you can't afford a new engine at any moment"? I don't necessarily agree, and think that's somewhat cynical, but I see their point, and it's something to take into consideration.

Since Feb., I've done:
- Flywheel
- Clutch
- 30k service (~$400?, since the engine was out)
- Clutch slave cylinder/accumulator (something like that - $500 P&L?)
- New tires
- Diverter valves

I've so far spent something like $7200 in less than 6 months, and that's with very cheap tires (Kumho Ecstas, <$700 for all four).

Granted, I got a little unlucky with the flywheel (and paid more for stock than I would have for GT3 RS upgrade), but still, costs can add up quickly. I think I was a little unfortunate to need all that, but not insanely so.

P.S - I am intent on buying my exhaust used

Wow, I've never heard of wearing out a flywheel. Sorry to hear about that. Has anyone else ever heard this? I've seen one damaged when a clutch exploded, but that's a different scenario.

996twin_sc is infamous around these parts
I've got a big ole truck (gotta have one down here in the South) as my DD. I find if I wait and drive the TT on the weekends (which is tough sometimes)the car never gets old. It's like someone said in this thread.....its like driving a new car every weekend.

Jon, I agree with a few other guys, just buy a beater for the winter and other times you need the room.

Having a 996tt as your primary car has it's drawbacks, namely space. After I put the klenex box and the hot chick in it, there's not much room for anything else. That's why I have two cars.....lol

last car, a 1998 C4S in speed yellow, yellow belts, calipers, yellow stitching on black full leather with turbo II spoilers and etc. was my DD for three years. now I am doing the 2002 TT with GT3 clutch and ight flywheel with around stage 3 mods as the NEW daily driver. much more compliant. of course you know we have a station wagon for the kid(s).

Your chick must be very small to fit in a tissue box...
