Do I need to replace my diverter valves?

I have about 11K miles on my 2002 tt and I do get an occasional "honking" noise from the rear(during very moderate accelaration only at about 2500 RPM). The car seems to perform fine without any drop in the boost or power. What is the best way to tell if I am really loosing power from defective diverter valves? When I speak to the dealer they tell me they almost never have problems with diverter valves, which is quite a different story than what I read on these posts.

The infamous honking noise is caused by faulty DV's. Change them to baileys or Evo's and the noise should be gone. Good luck.

What should be the cost to install the new diverter valves at the dealer and at an independent shop?

I managed to do it in just under an hour.

Figure a shop is going to charge 1-2 hours of labor at 80-120 an hour.

It's really not that difficult to do yourself.

I understand the honking can also just be loose hoses. I had my DV's replaced within the ast couple thousand miles and I'm getting the honking again, and boost won't exceed .9 (I have Upsolute). Guess I'll find out as soon as I have time to get it into the shop.

It cost me $0 at the dealer. They replaced my DVs with Bailey's... under warranty.

Jlee-

Here is a link to our website with the install instructions. We sell the Bailey DV's. Hope this helps.

Dock,

I asked my dealer whether they can replace the DV's to Baileys under warranty if I provide them with the parts and they said that it has to replaced with stock parts in order to be covered under warranty. This does not make sense to me since I am saving them money but this is what they said. Was you dealer just being a little flexible or can this be done officially under warranty?

The Regional Service Rep. had to get it approved by PCNA. It was done officially under warranty.

I talked to the Regional Service Rep. and explained to him that I wasn't about to bring the car back in every 2-3000 miles, over and over again, each time the OEM valves they replaced started making noise. It could go on for as long as I owned the car, and that was just not going to be acceptable, especially since Porsche could do the right thing and replace the valves with a known performer (Baileys) and they would never have to deal with the issue again. He agreed.

I really think Porsche has gotten away with one as far as the DV issue goes. The OEM DV is generally not up to the task long term, and if more owners would put pressure on Porsche to fix the problem (not with OEM parts), then we'd all have better cars with less money out of our pockets, while making Porsche stand behind their product.

If your valves are "honking" and you replace the valves yourself, you're letting Porsche off the hook.
