335i/350z double kill
335i/350z double kill
Hey ya'll,
I was on my weekly dry cleaning run to St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon.
As I approached the on ramp to I-275 South and looked to merge, I barely missed a black 335i as it swung into the right lane. A split second later a blue 350z bolts by in the center lane. I drop it down and give chase. Within 5 or so seconds I reach to two dueling speedsters. I make a move to the outside and quickly over take the 350z. I then pull even with the 335i, he is obviously not prepared for what happened next. I tached 4th gear to redline and the rest was history. I mean some serious distance between me and the black BMW going into 5th gear. I check the speedo - 155 mph! This is when I pull her into 6th and coast. It takes about 15 seconds or so for the BMW to pull alongside. He gives me the Big Thumbs up and smiles. Not quite the same respone from the 350z driver. He pulls his window down and shoots me the Big Bird!! I laughed at him and give him my best Jim Carey freako impersonation ( a combo fire marshall bill/pet detective shriek). I was completely pumped....It was like I was a F-15 fighter pilot for just one second... YEAH I'm ALIVE!

Not really a kill considering what the other two cars were, but at least you had fun. I must say though...thats not the best stretch of Interstate to be doing 155 on. Hardly anywhere around here locally is a good place to drive fast....we have some of the biggest idiots on the road here....2 of those idiots were prolly driving the bmw and datzun.

The funny thing is that I was reading some posts the other day from the BMW site. There was a lot of chatter about how the 335i tt could actually beat a 996tt.
They seemed to rationalize it quite well - i guess.

I'll try to find it again. It wasn't the M5board. But the tread was quite amusing. It was like reading the cheat notes to how Dr. Frankenstein actually made his creature. Arrrr. FIRE!!
Here is that 335i fantasy thread. The second one is even more ridiculous, man what are they smoking over there?

Someone ran 14.1 in a AWD 911 turbo, that has got to be the worst ever. There is no way you should EVER EVER go that slow in a turbo.
edit, and then trapped 105, he must have missed 2 and 3rd or started in 5th from the launch.

I just read the thread and there are no crazy ideas going on there, pretty much everyone knows for a fact that the cars are far apart in performance. Fun read no less.
Goes back ot anything can happen.... even on the track. Then people run home posting that they beat car A when that car let of at 8th because they missed a shift and didnt want to bother with the rest of the run,
I know I've done it before.
But still 14.1 @ 105 hahahahaha. I dont care what track it is 14.1 @ 105 is terrible for a TT even launching in second. I launched in second in my vette at a crappy track here in GA and trapped 132, in fact the traction was so bad that tied my fastest trap for the night.

It's true, the 335 is a wonderful car... in fact, I think it is perfection for what it is.
But, it's just a level below the Turbo.
My 335 is childs' play compared to my father's Turbo. In short, the turbo is my car's big brother.
But perhaps with a tune, headers, downpipes, exhaust... it could be a problem for stock turbos... just maybe.

And this guy ran a 14.1, got a 2.588 60', launched in 2nd gear and still ran a 14.1. All it takes is a half decent driver to get a decent time and while the Turbo is hard to launch, you can still get 2.2 60's even in the worst conditions.
and if a bone stock 335i is trapping 101 the turbo should be at LEAST 8-10 mph faster on the trap end. a good driver should not trap 105, even at LACR.
