Broke Crank At The Track!!!
Sorry Tom.......I know we'll appreciate being kept informed.....and golly, you just have to get beyond it......my only advice is try to find a way, in the end, to turn it positive, it's what I try to do, and your 1st comment about today's problem might be tomarrow's upgrade tells me you're on that page.
For what it's worth.......I can relate.....had to put a new engine in the 02 C4 Cab last fall (popped a cam chain for no apparent reason).....and 2 weeks ago had a bad one with the Strosek 993 on the track, & that's looking like at least $25K......but already my goal is make her more than whole.....& take her to Charlotte Parade next year.
But.....thanks for sharing......it is tough....you gotta know you've got our best wishes.......and every confidence you'll be able to steer around this speed-bump (with our help
).

At the track at sebring running in the instructors group, car dash lights come on as I am coming out of a corner and wheels lock up.
I get towed back.
car at the shop. all kinds of metals in drain plugs. engine pulled, crank broke, and well you can imagine what the rest of the insides looked like. not one piece salavagable.
Need a new engine.
Car is stock X-50 with an ECU flash? Never modded cause thought car would be more reliable, that's funny.
Well open to anyones thought's on this one!!!

Makes me second guess upping the rev limiter. I think I'm just going to go weight loss hard core and leave everything else alone. I know this is a fluke but Tom probably has more track miles than anyone else here on their turbo.

well thanks everyone for the condolences and advice and suggestions.
I saw the autopsy and there are chunks of metal everywhere the crank is broken through and the case cracked up!!
found an engine from porsche they want 22k but will not take my core so want an additional 6.7k!!
I thought at least they would want to see this to believe it!!
I will put another X-50 stock engine in with an ECU flash and straight pipes and run the **** out of it again. If I get 10k track miles I'll be happy then I will try a rebuild before it goes.
guess this is why Cup cars are rebuilt so much. If you run it like a race car be ready to rebuild it like a race car. My next track date is August 25th.
the car will be on the track by then.
thanks again.

Tom,
Sorry for your troubles. I am glad that neither you nor anyone else was injured or crashed. At least your car is not a total loss. Have you thought of having someone "steal" your car? Just kidding. I hope your car is put back better and stronger than ever. I agree with some comments about the car being quick enough on a track with only a few mods. Street racing is fun and more power is always better for that but 550-600 hp on a track is PLENTY. Keep us posted. Our collective experience is what makes this board informative and helpful in owning and modifying our cars. Good luck.

That sucks Tom, GL on the replacement. I wonder if it was damaged before you ever got the car, the tranny thing smelled like PO abuse to me, maybe the engine was too. GL
I think Joe at fabspeed has a TT engine laying around, fwiw.

Tom,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I've valued all your posts and tracking philosophy, so am very sorry to hear about this.
Great rebound - zeroing in on a replacement so quickly! Way to go.
