Unhappy Broke Crank At The Track!!!

Well I wasnt going to post this but it may be interesting to some.
At the track at sebring running in the instructors group, car dash lights come on as I am coming out of a corner and wheels lock up.
I get towed back.
car at the shop. all kinds of metals in drain plugs. engine pulled, crank broke, and well you can imagine what the rest of the insides looked like. not one piece salavagable.
Need a new engine.
Car is stock X-50 with an ECU flash? Never modded cause thought car would be more reliable, that's funny.
Well open to anyones thought's on this one!!!

Definitely interesting Tom. How many miles/track miles are on the car? I think this is the first crank failure I have heard of. Is your car still under warranty?

Wow, I feel bad for you Tom

Must be a horrible feeling. There was a Turbo motor on ebay for $17k (I think).

Tom at this point might as well build a GT700 motor with stronger internals. Sorry to hear about this and it is the first one I have heard of as well.

Oh man Tom, I'm really sorry to hear that. Are you still under warranty? If not, what do you think you'll do?

How did the crank fail - have you had a chance to take a good look at it yet?

Sebring turn 13.
Buddy, believe me, first thought was today's problem is tomorrows upgrade but the engine is destroyed, case and heads. the pistons and rods went everywhere and ruined everything.

Tom, very sorry to hear this. Kevin sold Cpu77 a new x50 motor for around 17K if I remember, but the lack of a core will cost more. Good luck

Well, It happens... Part of tracking a car... Kinda like my C5 slinging a rod thru the block two years ago... You just have to chalk it up to track stress. The "joy" of our sport.

Goodluck with the engine sourcing Tom. Hope you're back up and running soonest!

Mike

Very sorry Tom

But how do you know the the crank was the cause? Can something else broke first causing the crank to break? Most of the guys with modded engine has stock crank. Anyway Kevin of UMW can get you a brand new GT2 engine for a great price. And I have a set of GT3RS crankshaft and Arrow rods for the track if you're interested.

Let us know about the failure mode. Are there any burnt
bearings? Can you show us a picture of the breakage
surfaces of the crank?
