Broke Crank At The Track!!!
Like everyone else, I'm sorry to hear about this. Tom has helped me on a few occasions and is big contributor here.
I have to agree with Markski, probably spun a bearing or cooked a rod. Sure you didn't seize a piston?
Look at it this way. 10K track miles is a lot. Don't know too many turbo cars that can take that kind of track time.

It could have been many things I guess, critically low engine oil level would have seen some dashboard light warnings first. Would be interesting to see if there was some sort of overrevs in downshift that sometimes go unnoticed. Or also a boost spike of some sort.
I have been tracking my current engine for more than 2 years in extreme weather and sandy conditions and only now I am starting to feel some top end work needed, also some smoke from one turbo, but I only run less than 1 bar on the track during sprints. A stock turbo motor should last forever on the track, something has gone wrong, it is not normal.
Suggesting a GT700 for track usage (or other tuner's 700HP kits) is certainly a bad idea! Regardless whether your engine internals are strengthened, if you run ongoing high boost on the track, you will destroy the engine in no time.

Tom,
Glad to hear you are already operating on the new "game plan".
I would suggest upgraded Intercoolers as THE NUMBER ONE mod for
your track car, they really work wonders to preserve the power levels.
I also agree about GT700 type power for track work (not good). I was
at my best with my puny little k-16's/flash/exhaust for serious track work.
I now have too much power for the track and have to really be careful.
Good luck!
MK

again, thanks all!
working on getting the new engine and Kevin is helping out with Viper Bob.
My initial reason for the post was that I was hoping to learn how and why this happened and also for others here to learn something on how to protect our engines better.
Many ideas on how this happened but with the engine so torn up hard to tell what happened first, it detonation, low oil, shift problem.
after talking with Viper Bob who took the motor apart he says there is no evidence of low oil or detonation.
as more autopsy results come in I will post about it, maybe it will help someone?

That sucks....at least you have the resources to get back on the track soon.
I am told by my neighbor that the new owner of Dave White's is really stepping up the place. I need to come down there...I have not been there in years.
