I had the fantastic opportunity to buy a PSI Loud from a fellow board member.
Installed the piece on a 2003 TT X50.
Had LOADS of phun. But because my dad drives the car more often he wanted it off! Drawing too much attention and just tooo damn loud.

now after a few weeks he noticed the lack of FUN, meaning lesser HP and that little grin on your face on WOT

Here's the question, the PSI Loud produces some terrible drone between 2-3k rpm.

Because we will be also modifing the coilovers (the whole rear interior has to be pulled out I assume?) I wanted to ask if you guys have made any attempts to dimm or eliminate the drone with sound dimming material?!
I mean that this stuff could be put under the cloth in the rear.
I hope you understand what I mean...

This sound dimming stuff is being used in show cars for the high-end hifi freaks!

what do you guys think, will this be the solution to eliminate drone?

I have a Fabspeed LOUD on the car now with the same issue.....Its not made for cruising long distances (my commute is 45 mi each way). I don't believe more sound deadening material will help much. I read up on and bought a pair of vortex cones which would help some, but not all.

My ultimate decision is to go to a different exhaust (bought this week) and sell the Fabspeed to someone who doesn't use it as a commuter car. Its a great weekend exhaust, not a great every day exhaust.

 

Had the PSI Loud. Sold it. Bought Europipe Loud. Sanity saved... To answer your question, I researched this extensively before selling the PSI and a few people actually tried the sound deadening mats and one person did a spray on sound deadening to no avail.

 

LOL John. I'm still having fun with it, but I'm sure after my trip to Dallas next weekend in the car I maybe saying/doing the same thing!!!! I love the sound though still, sounds so mean!

 

2 hints to save your sanity on a long drive......

Cruise in 5th gear - the fabspeed resonance drops to near zero from 2900-3300 rpm, spend more money on gas though....

Buy a set of noise reducing headphones - I wear these in the morning (I leave the house at 5:30) and it helps substantially when the car is in 6th gear

Using these two tools I'd actually be willing to keep the exhaust except my wife refuses to ride in the car.......hence the 9ff valvetronic exhaust I'm buying.

 

Dear Shark01, I request that you do the rest of us a BIG favor and please post a LOT of details and images about the installation, how it works, and how it sounds! Sure sounds interesting.

Sound deadening headphones..... Seems like more than a flawed concept for so may reasons that it isn't worth listing them. Get EP2 and be done with it. For less agressive setups use a miltek as its pretty much drone free.....

Why not?.......it works, lets face it for many of us buying a $5,000 exhaust is just stupid, so we buy whats on the market used. Don't see many used EP2s out there so you try other things.

The Fabspeed sounds F'in AWESOME but its too much to take at 5:30 in the morning every day, the headphones are great for a quiet ride. Then in the afternoon the boost bong fires up and the ricers get scared

 

I had PSI Loud, sold it got PSI quiet, sold it got smart and bought

a EUROPIPE S2 Quiet, sanity and eardrums saved.

Sell it if you do not want the drone, it will drive you nuts.

Shark01: Driving "deaf" removes your hearing as a sense that you can use to be aware of the situation around you.

Another consideration is that making noise for the sake of it seems no better than a ricer and a coffee can exhaust. But thats just an opinion.....

 

You've never used sound reducing headphones, have you? It filters certain frequencies only. You can actually hear your surroundings better with the exhaust noise filtered down.

Don't criticize those of us who want their sportscar to SOUND like a sportscar and release greater HP and torque in the process. It is FAR different than a ricer who doesn't have any grunt in his rig to begin with. In my case, I want it quiet in the morning......and to terrorize the general public in the afternoon.

Yes, everyone gets an opinion.....no matter how whack it may be

 

Get rid of the exhaust... that is the best solution.
