New guy needing advice

Hey guys! I'm in the market for a 996TT and I have no idea what I'm doing. The last Porsche I was around was a 79 that my dad owned. I have been looking at a few Turbo S' out there and a few seem to be good deals. Do you guys have any advise what to look for or stay away from? I've done some searching on the board and the main thing I see is the 2nd gear issues. Any colors to stay away from? It seems every Turbo out there is either black or silver.

Just as an FYI I'm coming out of an E55 K2 car and before than and M3. I do recognize a few on the board from long ago on other forums at MBWorld and E46Fanatics. I like what I see on this board for sure. It seems this is a mod happy place. I was searching around and I almost bought the FVD Tune today and I don't even have the car yet.

Buy the newest Porsche you can comfortably afford. The 996TT changed a little in the 2002 model year (2001 was the first year it was offered), but has been relatively unchanged since then.

Set aside 30-40k for mods, though. These guys can be brutal on your wallet.

BLack and silver are definitely the most common. But shop around becuase there are so many varous options from car to car. Pin point exactly what price range, milage and color you want and just be patient. Make sure to do a PPI on any car you are seriously considering. If you can get an X-50 car or an 'S' car for close to the same as a standard TT, jump on that. Otherwise get a standard tt and just start modding. You can jump to over 500 hp for $5000 with programming and an exhaust.

Enjoy

If you plan to mod check out the for sale section here there are usually a few well modded turbos for sale. Always cheaper to buy one someone else has already done.

Yeah there are a couple sky yellow ones that are for sale. .. BMWdemon's is really nice and cheap to. If you can afford a x-50 (which it seems that you can) do it.

I looked hard for about two months and finally found a flawless black on black '02 NON x50 car w/ 37K miles for 58K.

Be patient, look everywhere, and most importantly read everything here about what to look for i.e. 2nd gear, and you'll find one. This place will teach you more in one week than you could learn in a year. Use the search button!

Thanks for the welcome guys! $manager, it sounds like you found a smokin deal. I hope to be that lucky. I'm trying to hold out for a low mileage Turbo S or an 04 X50 car. That's if I can wait that long. Some of the older modded cars do look good and they are sooooooo tempting. No matter what I buy I know I'll mod it sooner or later. This habit is worse than a drug addiction.

Also don't make the same mistake as I did. Set aside a few bucks for mods. You are really going to need it. For me I still have to save for a while before I can have enough for all the mods I want to have.
