Interesting Projects...

I think you guys may appreciate this -- three of the latest custom projects at RPM. The first one is a 1996 993TT that is pushing over 700HP. We are just dialing in the last settings and road testing - the car is a beast!! Haltech engine mangement, custom hybrid Turbonetics turbos and a lot of custom fabrication. The next one is a 1970 Mustang with a small block 427. It now sports twin turbos. The next one is an '04 Corvette that is also getting twin turbos. Both projects are in the final stages now, should be insane!

I've seen these rear turbos (STS?) before, and I had a C5 Z06, I've always wondered what path the compressed air takes back to the front?

Thanks,
Seth

No it's an EFI setup that is meant to look somewhat original, it uses a Mass Air Flow sensor. Very trick and clean looking setup! The STS kits are excellent, we have been installing them for some time now, but latley we have been doing a lot of custom STS applications.

Erik, great pics. Are you concerned about pressure loss on the C5 with the really long turbo plumbing? ....

I spoke with Mr. Squires (first S in STS) at SEMA. His explanation of why the incredibly long exhaust and intake plumbing did not contribute to turbo lag was, uhhmmmm, unique. I don't think verifiable science played a big part. He does use tiny exhaust housings for such a large displacement engine.

It's probably fine for a drag car that you can spool up before starting the clock.

What seats are in the 993? They look like a nice street/track compromise and different than the ubiquitous GT3's.

The other thing in mind is the loss of heat before the turbine. Heat in the form of expanding gases is what makes these TC work. Seems to me it is a long haul all the way to the back with the bad air and then forward with the good air. There is one good thing about the long induction to the engine is there is alot of good cooling (just like an intercooler) in the tubing going forward. Maybe heat wrap the exhaust all the way back?
