How many TT with 3.8?

But back to the topic at hand, it's really too bad that anytime anyone tries something new/different they get the living **** kicked out of them for doing it? As a community of enthusiasts shouldn't we we all be encouraging folks like KPG, Tom etc... for trying something different? Just like when Marksi/Scott went a different route and tried Proto? Of course, I'm interested to see what they do, how and the end result. I remember in the summer of 2005 when yes my POS tiptronic did actually get into the 10s, the response was mixed. "You ran nitrous, it's a tip so it doesn't count, your car makes 500hp, the intercoolers are not as good as the stock ones, the track was going downhill like a "black" ski slope".... What's with all the snide, under-handed stuff, half-truths, disinformation (often camouflaged as marketing/promo etc..). Anyone that has had their car in pieces for a year has obviously gone through some ups, downs and then some. It's not easy, nor is it always fun but some of things that have been said are very transparent indeed.
In large part I just feel like there's no point in explaining some of the pros/cons of what we've been up to with our car because this will be the end result. People getting crazy religious about a company (in part because they've spent a lot of money with them) and then telling me that it's all been a waste of time and that I should just have 9ff build me a car for 10 cents. It's a real shame to be honest.
Honestly, I'm speaking as one of the guys here and this obviously has nothing to do with the fact that I sell GT700s.

Sharkster: Al Davis was NEVER loyal to his fans. I grew up in Sacto in the 70's and EVERYONE was a Raiders fan...god they hated "those quiche eating 49rs"...lol.
But I was a fan and of course was rewarded handsomely for many years. I always respected the 49r philosophy of individual sacrifice for the team...of course I am a selfish bastard who won't sacrifice for others, but I digress.

I believe the original intention of this thread was to hear from other 3.8 conversion owners. It got derailed when Rob answered SpeedYellow's dyno question with an enthusiastic guess. $hitstorm ensues, and we've had fun at his expense with no answer to the question. Well, two 993ers have, but no 996ers.
I'm curious too, so I'll ask...how many people are currently driving a 996TT with a 3.8 conversion? Surely these aren't uncharted waters.

Why so much hipe on Your cars going fast for 1/4 mile. While it's cool to get a little horsepower out of these cars why not leave it for the POS american cars that don't know how to turn. Did anyone forget that Porsches are made to turn? The true test of a car is not how fast straight but how fast every which way. Throw 1000hp in an old American Muscle car bring it to the local drag strip and run with the down to earth people in the world. Get your Porsches on a track where at that time you can truly appreciate why you bought the car to begin with. They can go left and right really well but they can't do it with 1000hp engine that will rip the Porsche built 6 cylinder to pieces everytime you start it. Let's not forget that no brake in the world really will stop a car that goes that fast. So when you guys get these bad boys on the street and your racing your buddy down I-5 please make sure my family is in a different state so when it doesn't stop when desired we won't suffer the pain.....
Alex, I've had my up's & downs with previous builds, some people dont understand the R&D that goes into these Builds!! & Yes the average time for something like this is about a year! There are alot of things being done with diff people (the head guy, cam guy, piston, case ETC). Totaly diff than an off the shelf kit. Keep in mind that Mark entered uncharted territories with his combo & lifted the bar! We all learned from his mistakes, now we will try a new aproach & hopefully bring the bar even higher. We ALL WIN!
Many years ago, when I lived in SF and had a roomate from Chicago, Da Bears and 49rs would meet regularly in the Post season. One time, after the Niners Beat Da Bears my roomate would not speak to me for 2 weeks. Awesome!
Mark, what would happen if Mike Ditka fought the entire US Marine Corps? The Marines have full body armour and assualt rifles. Ditka has a stick. Who wins?

He did indeed and hopefully now he can just enjoy the car as opposed to wrecking it drag racing. Mine should be finished in a week or so after a few tweaks and a long downtime. Same story, coulda done a "kit" and been driving it many months ago but instead....

Poor choice of private info made public
KPG,
The most unimpressive thing about this entire conversation is the info
that you took from our meeting in my office and at MY HOUSE AT MY
DINING ROOM TABLE. The
"mommy's money" comments Kevin
is making is in reference to the fact the my wife makes "really good money"
and I adimittedly make less and have for over a decade due to a struggling
manufacturing company that I sold. I shared this info with Kevin in confidence, and now it comes up on a public forum. Really classless.
Oh yeah, I drank the PSI Kool-Aid until I became ill and did Loan Neil Orton
a large amount of $ (unsecured), so yes I am guilty of that. Neil is trying
to pay me back and I hope he is able to.
You still didnt understand my bet. Real world Experience at Road America.
Your car versus Brad's 993TT: $1000
My car versus Your car: $ 2000
Let me know if that is fair against a fully built UMW car with the best of everything?
Remember to play the game, the car MUST RUN FIRST. You have all
winter. Let me know if you are up for it?

Hmmmmm, once you said UMW built car that would include me
, Since my boy Kevin is not a betting man
, I would take that bet on a mile run, no tracks (we need to let the cars speak for themselves)! with that in mind we can put up $500.00 punk out money & give it to a 6speedster to hold once my car is ready (hopfully soon) we can set a date
. Keep in mind I dont know the full potential of your car & I definitly don't know mine
. I am NOT a bench racer but since you started this, I would love to be your Hunkleberry
