Angry Got Rear Ended today - what should i do? pix

Stopped at a light, turned green, but i hesitated and bam!

a newer model A4 with a 30'ish armenian girl hit me. she had been stopped behind me and was talking on her cell phone.

knocked my license plate holder off and a little scratch on the newly painted bumperette...

got contact info and license, she apologized and accepted blame, would like to pay for everything instead of going through insurance.

no other noticeable damage, though there was a high pitched electrical noise for a little while, but then went away.

my impression is that there is no damage besides the license plate holder being knocked off, and a little scratch on the bumperette.

do i need to take it somewhere and get it formally?
what would you do?

here's the pics of my new bumperettes, sans the plate holders.

also including the newly painted lip.
rockers and clear markers due this week...

I really would go and have it looked at, just to be on the safe side. Not all possible damage is cosmetic so I'd really want to make sure there isn't anything "under the surface" wrong with it. Besides, if there were a more serious problem than a scrach a plate holder you'd want that fixed now instead of kicking yourself down the road when it shows up and you have to pay for it. Even though this wasn't a higher speed thing, you never know.

I think the first course of action is to get some clear side markers!

Secondly, have the police make out a report even if you are not going to file an insurance claim. First of all, you want to have her admission on record and secondly the time in NY is 10 days to do it and I am sure wherever you are the time is limited as well. If you come back to her with a high price she may back out.

Third and most important, if you do not make a police report, you can end up like my friend. In 1997 he was cut off by a guy and they had a mild accident. The guy admitted fault and agreed to pay. My friend left the scene with a handshake. Turns out that the guy called the cops and reported a hit and run! My friend was arrested for leaving the scene about 2 weeks later and his license was suspended for 18 months as well as him having to spend 24 hours in jail!

Always make out a police report on the spot whether you plan to use it or not. Get both sides on paper ASAP!

Good luck!

If just the bumperettes got scratched I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Just have them repainted and move on.

Get under the back bumper and look up, there are two light silver brackets on the rear of the bumper, make sure everything looks straight and in tact, then the obvious get the peices resprayed.

In Maryland, an officer will not write a report unless someone was injured in the accident or the cars need to be towed away.

Then how can the insurance company have a record of what happened without an accident report?

Call your insurance company and tell them you were involved in an accident, I had to do this about a month ago. No one was injured in the accident and both cars were able to be driven. The officer said since we all ready exchanged info we could leave.

very sad

since she's paying everything i'd take it to dealer have them remove the bumper to check if there is any internal damage. noticed u have parking sensors on the bumper that they are not cheap if something goes wrong.

thanks for the input.

i think i'll head to the dealer when i get a chance and have them look things over, get an estimate and forward that to her.

the bumperettes are a little misaligned

called her today and she remained very cooperative, even wished her a happy mothers day. she said she didn't have any kids...

bad luck in the first month!

a friend of my had his c4s less than a week and hit a piece of tire on the freeway... had to have his front radiator or somethin replaced... took six weeks!

As others have said, I would take it to the dealer to have it checked out. Here, once you agree to a cash payment for damages you have no recourse if you find another problem at a later date. At least if you go through insurance they will pay for damage discovered later on.

No big deal, no real need to involve the insurance co.....I would get the cash and have the dealer do the work.
