hello,

i'm sure i should just follow what the manual says, but i was curious if you can or have used other engine coolant other than porsche brand? is it okay to use another brand? or is their something in the porsche brand that isn't in the others?

Porsche coolant is coolant which contains a higher proportion than normal of the isotope deuterium, as deuterium oxide, D2O or 2H2O, or as deuterium protium oxide, HDO or 1H2HO.[1] Its physical and chemical properties are somewhat similar to those of regular coolant. Porsche Coolant may contain as much as 100% D2O, and usually the term refers to Coolant which is highly enriched in deuterium. The isotopic substitution with deuterium alters the bond energy of the hydrogen-oxygen bond in coolant, altering the physical, chemical, and especially biological properties of the pure or highly-enriched substance to a larger degree than is found in most isotope-substituted chemical compounds.

hahaha!! so paul....is that a "yes" or "no" that i have to use only porsche coolant? i didn't understand any of that and all i've had was a root beer! hahaha!

 

I always use Porsche fluids.

 

IIRC, they sell the same coolant at the VW dealerships....and it's a bit cheaper there. Give the VW folks a call and price it out.

Any G12 coolant will work.

The Porsche fluid is the most expensive, the VW/Audi brand is about $25/Gal and Texaco DexCool is the least expensive and the most widely available.

 

While you're at it, change out the coolant tank pressure cap. This should be changed about every two years because they break down and you loose coolant. It's only about $20.00 from your local dealer.

Just don't forget to relieve the pressure in the tank by flipping the lever on the black cap next to it.
