Subwoofer in trunk anyone?

Hey I heard from a car stereo shop that the 996 sounds good with a sub in the trunk. Has anyone done this? Or can someone with an amp in the trunk and a spare subwoofer box try this out? It sounds strange but maybe worth a shot. The guy said that having all the sound coming from the front of the car eliminates the imaging problems of having the bass behind you. He compared it to listening to a high end home stereo or live concert with all sound sources facing you. Apparently there is not much to block the sound coming from the trunk through to the cabin. I am skeptical and would have thought the base to be muffled and not very tight???

P.S. At last years SEMA show Sony set up their Cayman this way.

I've got a sub mounted behind the rear seats that sounds great. Not gangster bass, just good SQ. I put the same sub/amp in the trunk and could barely hear it.

A nice quality 8" sub or 2 is more than you need. Unless you're trying to win some inner-city competitions.

No inner-city competitions! I really like the idea of 2 6" subs behind the rear seat though.

I was trying to find a way to get better subs (and a little mor flashy) and a new amp in my car. This is my "custom" box that the old owner had made. The carpet doesnt match perfect which kinda pisses me off

That looks pretty decent. With the seats up I'm sure it's not much of an eyesore.
I went to central texas' largest carpet dealer and they didn't have anything that could get anywhere close to my savannah beige carpet.

Carjoe0220 what kind of subs do you have? I heard JL's are the best for 6" and they have a new model coming out to replace the 0W6.

They are some Pioneers. I didnt put them in but im looking to upgrade and maybe get something a little more flashy (not over the top)

Im going to revaluate my whole system, Im just not happy with it. First thing first will be Ipod integration for sure

Anyone know of any boxes that fit behind the driver's seat? 9and look nice there)
I figure that is the very least used area of the car (some of the fine shorties fit in the back on the passenger side, but nobody fits behind me).

With the sub literally a few inches from my butt... should be able to get that gangsta bass feel from something less.

I did three 8's in a customer Fiber box in the back seat, ala BuggyG style. Sounds great!!

Your system will sound much better if you put it behind the rear seats pointed at the glass versus just behind a driver/passenger seat.

Here's another option for you. Lightweight, minimal space. You wouldn't believe how hard it hits. Very Impressed!
