Any suggestion for my 996 engine?

My car has 180k miles I know I have to change. Since I'm spending big money on this project, I wanna make something different. my first idea was 3.8l since engine price is not
that big difference. but my car is 1999, so wire throttle.... So it's hard to change.... Then I'm thinking 3.4l X51 engine. What do you guys think?

Finally someone with more miles than me. I have 2002 c2 with 93,000 miles. This, as Im sure you know, is the 3.6 320 HP motor. I bought it back in June & immediately had it dynoed. Showed 341 engine HP. This translates into well over 300 to the rear wheels. This swap is not that bad from what I read. But I am happy to hear you got 180,000 out of the 3.4, as the RMS issue has been well documented with that engine. Did you blow the motor, or are you just anticipating this?

Motor is still running great autually, but I'm kind of scare to drive now, so I'm just getting ready to swap the motor. Is 3.6 motor is easy to swap? no wireing modify? coz my 1999 3.4 is not electric throttle, it's wire throttle... I don't know....

From what I understand, there are a good deal of electroninc issues to deal with. Engine wiring, computer upgrades etc. If you go onto renntech.org, there is a post right now on this topic, documenting such a swap that went wrong. There is a lot of expert info, advising that guy on how to resolve the issues. There are apparently some shops that have specialized on this swap. But why not wait till your motor tanks & worry about it then. You can fullly research it & be prepared for when it does happen.

Why do you think you need to change the engine? Are you having any problems? An engine rebuild would be your cheapest option and with the money you save versus buying a new engine, you could put a S/C on it!

Well over 300? What are you basing that on? Normal drivetrain loss is in the 15% range which puts you at 290 WHP. But you should have an exact figure for the WHP if you had it on a dyno.....

Well if you wanna keep it NA, youre not gonna get your friends SC power. My SC 3.4 will walk away from a 3.8 with an x51 kit.... myabe you should sell your car and get a TT, it might even be cheaper this way...

hum... Anybody using SC 3.4? How is it? are they better than X51? By the way, could you tell me more detail about "427 ls3"? I have no idea what that is.

Work on putting her on a diet. You'd be amazed what dropping 200lbs will do for performance! I saved just shy of 100lbs with seats alone! The cats and exhaust are made to be in an Abrahms tank! Check my PM!!!
