GT2 Shocks, do they work!?!?
GT2 Shocks, do they work!?!?
Ok here's a crazy question.
I have a set of used(like new) GT2 Shocks. The whole threaded deal. They do not have springs.
I drive a 99' 996 with stock shocks and H&R Springs.
Here's my question: Can I make these shocks work for my car at all??? And if so can I use the H&R springs or would I need the same springs that match the shock.
ORRRR Do I need to have them revalved and change teh spring rate altogether.
Thanks guys!

I know I know! It was one of the techs ideas. I was concerned about the weight difference and how it would effect the ride and he was like ehhhh dont worry about it just do it. These guys always make me the test subject lol
Any insight from the tuners out there would be my best bet!

OK...are the GT2 shocks coilovers? If so you will need springs that fit...also the spring rate would be all wrong for your car, look at getting the H&R GT3 coilover springs...If I recall the GT2 and GT3 used the same coilovers with different springs for different weights. Others may know more, but I would ask in the GT2/GT3 section....you will get definite answers there.
Dosent mount up huh? Well that sucks I thought I had a free suspension upgrade!

Come on folks, please check your facts.
Of course the 996 GT2 suspension doesn't even fit on the Turbo.. That is because it fits on the C2 cars.
What year GT2 is the suspension from? That is very important because the earlier ones are less desirable as they are basically fairly soft. If the suspension is from a 2004 996 GT2 then it is the "exact" same suspension components as the 04 GT3s (same struts, valving and spring rates) and that is a direct fit on the C2 body 996s.
I have an 04 GT3 suspension on my 99 996 in case anyone doubts it. It bolted right in just like an M030 would (that is what I had to begin with).

I forget which year it was but as of certain model year the 996 GT2 started using the "exact" same suspension components as the 04 GT3s and that is a direct fit on the C2 body 996s.

Its off of an 04. It dosent have to be the best or any stiffer im sure its fine. I was also told that the front carriers may be different. the rears should fit fine. Did you have to change anything at all or did it just "bolt right up"? Thanks!
Zemdogg,
It is a direct fit. Unbolt old suspension and bolt in new suspension. No other parts are changed.
If you want a write up search for my my username Paul 996 on rennlist in the 996 section for a GT3 Suspension on 996 C2 topic.

Damn thanks man I will talk ot the techs on Monday for sure! the only thing they do not have is the springs. I have H&Rs on my car now. Will those fit or should I look for a set of GT3 springs?
Not sure which H&R spring rate you have or if they are the same length and ID as what is on the GT3/2. The GT3/2 uses an H&R spring.. I would order those or maybe go stiffer depending on your needs/wants.
See my post on RL. You need every single item on the picture. If not you will need to buy them but since you are at a P-dealer that should not be an issue. The parts from your C2 suspension are not re-useable on the GT3/2 or recommended.
Feel free to pm or email if you have questions.
