Recently purchased 996 C2 Cab, did I get a fair deal?

Hi everyone! I am new to the board and am enjoying the great community that resides here.

I have recently purchased a 2003 artic silver on black porsche 996 6 spd. cab. with 42k miles on it for $41k in Orange County, Ca. The car has some extras such as xenon, leather/power seats with porsche crest on headrests, 18 inch turbo twist wheels, cd player, heated seats, etc... Also purchased a warranty 3 year/ 36k miles bumper to bumper for dealer cost of 3k (I think the name of the warranty is 'Performance,' supposedly all the OC dealers use this aftermarket warranty b/c they have great rep). The car only had one owner who leased it in southern california (clean carfax too)

The car is in great condition and dealer was originally asking $47K (KBB puts this car at $58K?, I am curious how they come up with that number). I traded in my 2002 Audi A4 quattro for $12.5 K, $2.5K more than what several other dealers were going to give me (So in a sense the car was only $38.5k).

I plan on having the car closely checked out by a mechanic since the dealer has a 1 month/ 1k mile warranty on the car.

I've noticed other members place cars similar to this in the mid-30's. My question is: Did I pay too much or was this a fair price?

Also, any advice is greatly appreciated!

I have a question.....why would you wanna know? Would that make your Porsche ownership any better? Personally, I think you could have purchased the same car from a Porsche dealer with a Porsche warranty to 100k miles for the same or less...I have seen newer cars with less miles for less. The fact that you got more for your trade simply meant they had more room in the car to deal. Its that simple. Pretty much all dealers buy cars for the same prices, they use the same information to give you the value of the car. A good indicator of that is right before you accept a deal, take your trade out of the deal. The dealer should sell you the car at the same price. If they suddenly raise the price of the car, know they are planning on making money on your trade because they can wholesale it for more than they are giving you...but the question is...was it a fair deal for you? If so, its a good deal. Enjoy it....

Thanks, you are right, it ultimately doesn't matter. It has been a dream of mine to own a car like this for a long time and I just don't want to feel like I was duped in the deal. Before purchasing I hadn't seen this forum but had shopped around quite a bit. The 996 was priced very well for the OC area (just doing comparison shopping during the last month) but when I saw this site I realized maybe it wasn't as competitively priced as I originally thought. The only reason I wanted to know is for my own personal peace of mind (I don't tend to trust used car salesmen!)

On a positive note this site provides a great service in educating those of us that are new to the intricacies of owning a porsche!

Don't overthink the deal you did after it's already done. You will drive yourself nuts. Just enjoy the Porsche family. I bought my C4S the Friday after Thanksgiving. just have fun with the car!

Prices in OC tend to be a bit on the high end of the market, so you can't even really compare to others from other regions. looking at gas prices alone you should be kicking yourself (or ourselves).

Since you already bought the car.... you shouldn't even worry about it. If you keep asking you'll find the same car with less miles for less... stuff like that always happen. But since you have a warranty and you are happy with it just enjoy it and try to decide when you are going to get Pss9's and some nice rims! Not sure if you have exhaust... so if you don't you better add that to the list also.

Just enjoy your topless ride. You're lucky to live in So. Cal with excellent weather throughout the year. One of these days, we might hook up on the 405. Look for an 02 Red Cab with T/A front.

You got a fair deal. You didn’t steal the car, you didn’t get robbed either. The market you’re in (O.C. – CA.) is one of those pockets of notoriously high resale pricing compared to the overall resale in the rest of the country. The best part is the extended warrantee down the road, and if that 3 grand was included in the price, you did even better.

Go enjoy your car, welcome to the ‘club’ ... and try not to grin too hard as you’re cruising up PCH and feel like you’re in a movie scene.

As the others said ... post pict’s quickly. If I see you in Huntington Beach (every 3 months I’m there), I’ll congratulate you in person.
