Hi all. Wondering what experiences 6speeders have with 993 style hoods on their 996 cars? I'm curious where I can get them and who makes the highest quality hoods? Also, how much additional body work is needed to get a "perfect" fit.

No other body work is needed accept changing the hood and of course painting to match it. This was purcahsed from Meredian Auto.. but I think there is one guy that supplies these to the Auto Places.. A good body should paint it without having to blend the fenders..
The fit is perfect..

i have the new 993 style hood 3rd generation, that is perfected, from Lucent. the hood comes completely preped with primer, just needs to be painted, clear coated and colorsanded and polished. the hood like some of the older ones were poor quality and need a lot of prep work, but this new 3rd generation factory steel hood is superb. much better made than the CF ones. also the vent on the hood is tappered, not like the 993 which the vents are parrallel, has an agressive look.

Don,

Do you have the same hood as in the attached pics posted by 20C4s (begining of thread)?

Thanks,

I have the Gemballa CF hood. The fit was harder than the metal hood would be but the added benifit of lighter weight made it worth it to me. It is feather light. It is also resiliant to rock and hail damage and I have the entire hood covered with clear bra. Will

I too have the Gemballa CF hood....
Took a lot of work and is still not perfect (never expected it to be becaues its carbon/kevlar). The hood weighs half of the stock hood (I believe 14lbs)....it is pretty pricey though...
If you are interested in one, I have 4 in stock in Germany I can have here in a week....
