V1 dies not have a built-in diffuser - only laser detection which is really useless since once detected you have already been nailed.
Lidatek is one of the best laser shifters out there (or Passport ZR3)

My V1 was one of the best investments I ever made.

Don't get caught up in that diffuser nonsense, buy the best detector on the market...V1.

V1 is now preferred and here's why

Now don't get me wrong, I still think the Passport 8500 has it's merits as well which I will get to in a moment.

When I had my own 8500, I really didn't see the need for the arrows. They were nice-to-have's or cool but not necessary. How wrong I could have been this last weekend!

After turning on a two lane road rather quickly, I saw another vehicle do the same about 100+ meters behind me. Couldn't make out what type of car or anything unusual other than it followed me onto this particular road (not that unusual IMO). When my V1 went off I wasn't surprised since I KNEW that a radar speed sign was just around the next curve; however, imagine my surprise (and relief) when I looked down at the remote display and saw the REAR arrow flashing, not the forward arrow!! Whoops, a police car was absolutely trailing me. Fortunately I was actually going under the speed limit for a change (he didn't give me enough time to get up to speed)

I was also pleased when the V1 sounded again, this time for the radar up ahead, that it STILL showed the one to the rear as being the biggest threat! Way to go V1!! I'm a major believer now. Thanks Mike Valentine.

The main thing that the 8500 has over the V1 is the vast difference (as in less) in false alarms, especially in the X-band range. The false alarms in the X-band is so bad that I finally disabled it several months ago. Not a major problem around Cincinnati or so I thought.

This weekend we were driving my wife's Boxster S through New Richmond (for you Cincy folks) which is a small town along the Ohio River and we picked up a X-band alert that turned out to be the real thing. The police car was stationed at the end of New Richmond where the 4 lane narrows down to 2 lanes.

So for the rest of you who have disabled X-band, it would be prudent to be wary of small towns who don't have a big police budget!!
