Question Ticket advise needed....Grrrrrr

Gang:

Well I went 21 years + with no speeding tickets at all. And in the span of 7 months I have 2. Both in Denver and both in speed traps. Both the same situation, going thru and underpass and tons of cops on the other side.

I paid the first one figuring "fine the odds caught up with me". But this time I am pissed. It was part of a revenue generation machine and that is wrong. The officer said it was to catch DUI's. Fine, I can deal with that. But I was not checked for DUI (was not drinking anyway), he did not check for proof of insurance OR registration. I even mentioned that it is easy to pick out a red Porsche and he said he cannot tell anything about the car till they pass them because it is dark (technically how do they know it was me). Makes me want to not take my business into the town of Denver since it is nothing but harrasment. Never seen anyone pulled over for blowing a red light or road rage so God forbid you fly into on of their traps in a nice car.

Grummble Grummble

Will be talking to a Lawyer on Monday but wanted your guys thoughts. And yes I was cordial and took notes of the surroundings and the situation.

Yeah Doug. Thats it. Bet your a saint.

Just bugged at the setup of the whole thing. This was a tunnel and I litterally goosed it for about 150 feet etc. Wanted to hear the car. Nearest car was 100 yards behind me. So Doug yes I was 10mph over the limit of 35mph, it just irks me that there were 25 officers (according to the officer that I talked to) there to write tickets instead of preventing the breakins and 2 murders that happend last night.

You were at the wrong place at the wrong time... They setup these "Speedtraps" all over So.Cal freeways 7 days a week. They sit up on top of the offramps and get cars going by. It sucks but it is what it is.

My advice invest in a V1, it will save you in most cases. It saves my butt at least once a week. Since the PD in Laguna and CHP love the Ka band I detect them to and from work almost on a daily basis.

Sucks... Man... If you did your traffic school on the last one.. You might as well fight it. In California for just showing up they will usually cut your fine by 40-50% to not waste their time by fighting it.

I received a couple tickets in traps in the last year. Mine were both airplanes that were flying overhead to check the speed. Both times the freeway was under construction so they blocked a lane, and after that I was passing a semi-truck. I hired lawyers to fight both of them, and they don't usually fight based on the situation. Both of them told me that they fight the tickets based on how the officer wrote the ticket, and where they screwed up. So far they have gotten me off both tickets!!

Eric:

Unfortunatly my Pasport went off right away but since it was instant on...............

Colorado does not have traffic school. I wish we did.

Oh well. I just want this one to go away so my rates do not shoot up.

Drive safe

Isn't that the truth!

It's way easier to shoot laser or instant-on radar and rake in the money. Safety? That's not the motive. It's $$$$.

On Memorial Day I saw 7 speed traps in 65 miles of highway. One of them had an officer sitting on an overpass shooting laser. There were 8-10 patrol cars on the other side of the overpass writing tickets. My V1 didn't alarm, but I was only going 10 mph over...small beans in Georgia. Half a mile past each trap everyone was back up to the normal 20-30 over the posted speed (55).

You might look into the state laws concerning where officers can use speed detection devices. In Georgia they can't use laser/radar within a quarter mile either side of a speed limit change. Also, there has to be a sign posted to alert drivers that there is a speed change ahead. I have gone back and checked for these in past ticket situations. There are more specifications in the code, but these are two examples.
