Supercharing my 996
Kirby;
I just spoke with Rob King, the owner of SCarGo and my ECU came back from reprogramming. He has to get the car nose back from the body shop. The nose had to come off for the front center radiator install for the intercooler. I took the opportunity to have the nose repainted to take care of all those little rock chips.
The car should be ready this afternoon but I probably won't have time to pick it up till tomorrow morning. I can meet you Friday around 12:30-1PM if you want to test drive the car.

Ken, that sounds like a plan. Maybe meet for lunch or something? I have to drop my car off in the morning (RMS Leak) at Carlsen and then after that I'm free. Just let me know where you want to meet.
Got my car back last friday with the S/C installed. Unfortunately by the time I was starting home from SCarGo it was bumper to bumper traffic. Friday afternoon Bay Area traffic sucks!!!
I was out of town for most of the weekend and today Monday was the first time I had a chance to try out the car.
The butt dyno says it's faster but I'll try to get some g-tech numbers and carchip odbc II monitoring data tomorrow.

Car & S/C weights
Here are some before and after weights of my car.
Before weight with approx. 2.5 Gallons of gas. 3050 lbs.
The technical data section (page 210) of my owners manual gives a empty weight range of 2909.9 lbs to 3042.2 lbs. (depending on equipment) for the 996 coupe with manual transmission. I guess empty means without fuel, don't know if it also means without oil or coolant.
I don't feel like I have alot of equipment options other than the electric roof and the leather seats with the electric motors and heating elements. I dropped about 14 lbs. last year by changing out the stock mufflers with the GHL mufflers.
I was expecting the weight of my car to be closer to 3000 lbs but that's the reason I got it weigh so I can get some real numbers.
Weight of S/C kit 75 lbs.
Weight of car with S/C installed including intercooler coolants. 3138 lbs.
I already had a lighter than stock battery but decided to go lighter with a dry cell battery.
Weight of car with S/C installed including intercooler coolants and small dry cell battery. 3121 lbs.

"Weight of S/C kit 75 lbs. "
i partially offset this with a 16 lb reduction in flywheel weight which is much more important weight to lose than the SC parts weight gain. additionally, i already had the 3rd radiator pre-SC install. so my net weight gain was fairly minimal.

I just want to let you know your S/C thread was a major influence in my decision to supercharged my car.
My wife on the other hand just thinks you and other folks on the board are a bad influence
If you think the lightweight flywheel is a worthwhile option, I'll add it to my to do mod. list.
I didn't have the lightweight flywheel install at this time because:
1. Concern of rattling noise at idle.
2. I like to document and dyno each change.
3. My clutch is still O.K.
4. I always wanted to do a high RPM launch but been hesitant to place that kind of wear and tear on my clutch. If I'm going to change it out for the lightweight flywheel and sachs sport clutch I going to make sure I get some high RPM launch and trophy runs in my old clutch

Ken, thanks for letting give your car a spin...Sorry I sputtered a bit, need to take some time to get used to your clutch and stuff. Hoepfully someday I'll get to test drive it again on a more familar road.

If you're talking about a head-to-head run report with a stock 996 turbo, that wouldn't happen till this weekend.
If you're talking about a dynorun, I was able to book an appointment today with dynolabs at 3:00pm PST.
