Valentine 1 owners(mode)

Finally received my unit and was curious as to what mode most people use and why? Do the A, little L, and L correspond to a highway and city mode? Or is this just the unit using it's own logic to announce the bogies, as it seems to read? Thanks Lincoln

half an L logic mode mutes non threatening bogies
L advan logic mode doesn't warn if the computer doesn't think it's a bogie

It's all in the manual with lots of pics.

I just received mine and I started running it it the logic mode due to the large amount of false alarms. You will begin to get an idea of the operation in your local area. From there you will be able to determine which setting is best for your area.

Yeah I read all that, but what setting does everybody use in general? Each setting has it's advantages. Experienced owners should know what they leave it on for practicality, besides I live in Jersey.

I leave mine in the advanced Lodgic mode (L). The unit still picks up almost every authentic police bogey in the years that I have owned it and does not give that many falses. The trick is to learn your area and where the cops tend to be, and then use your radar to its best ability to determine if they are zapping people. A great radar detector stinks without the proper common sense to determine how to use it properly.

I just bought this for my wife. It's definately an interactive tool like the other people have mentioned. I live in a dense shopping area and even in advan logic mode, it goes off all the time. i'm sure it's much more effective on the highway and in the country, but around town you're gonna have learn your route and where the door sensors are setting it off. I think once you learn where it typically falses, it's easier to determine what's real and what's not.

I turned off X band in mine and set it where weak K band alarms are at a reduced volume. It's much easier to live with now.

I live in Southern California and I've only see actual police encounters on Ka band. My X band goes off all the time in the city. I'm going to shut it down here soon as well. I generally keep in in full logic mode the big "L". However, when I go on road trips to Tahoe or San Francisco or Vegas it goes into the the "A" mode to pick any signals on the open road.

In general I find the Valentine one to be very usefull and worth the money. It's saved my **** several times! But keep in mind that if you're going 85 in a 35 zone it doesn't matter what type of detector you have, you'll get nailed since its so obvious!!

Good luck and "avoid the radar"!!

Pistol that's what I ws thinking, but that is already becoming alittle annoying. Kinda better to be safe than sorry. Then it seems like I'm back to square one like my old unit, only now I have the directionals with bogies. That bogie counter does help when you see it chalking up, you then know it's the stores and junk!
