Smart Top Update

For all 996 Customers, please let me know if you received a boxster smart top instead of a boxster/996 remote top comfort controller. Please contact me asap. I have already put a call into Mods4Cars and hopefully Sven over there will call me back asap to figure out what happened. I was under the assumption that the remotetop comfort cotroller for the 996 is the same unit that controls everything for the 986 boxster and apparently now they have a different unit all together called the smarttop for the 986. However when you search for the 986 boxster that remotetop comfort controller doesn't come up.

i called you about this and was told all was the same- they are different units on the Wilhemy website, and I was shipped the 986 part, not the 996 part. My invoice says Boxster, and the unit says 986 and nothing else.

I have contacted mods4cars, they sent us the smart top 986 unit instead of the remote top 996/986 control unit. I am waiting a response on how he wants to handle this so we can get them swapped out. I never saw the units, I dont handle the shipping, our shipping guy do otherwise I would have noticed before they went out. I will update everyone luckily there is less than a handful of you guys that ordered the remote top.

Matt, for the love of God

What are you doing? I ordered the SMARTTOP for the 996. I don't want the remote top, that is a different unit. I want the SMARTTOP for the 996- you sent me the one for the 986! I understand that you didn't see these, but you and i talked on the phone. Don't send me the remotetop!

thanks.

Well, I installed the SmartTop this afternoon. It seems to work fine. Love the options. Now if I can only get the correct RemoteTop for 996 from GMP I will be all set for next month cruise to Central Cal. and many summers ahead.

What did you order? What did you receive? I ordered both the Smart & Remote for my 996. But what I received were one SmartTop for 996 & one SmartTop for 986. Damn! I want my RemoteTop. What am I going to do with this SmartTop for a Boxster?

I am talking with Sven to get your exchanges, there was a mistake in the shipment we ordered. Sven suggested to have all the 986 Smart Tops and SFARRIS'S SMART TOP sent to us first instead of directly to him, I have replied that It would be a faster transaction if I could have the customers send the units directly to him along with their names and shipping information and send the correct units back out directly to the customer. He has not replied back yet but has been writing me back and forth prettly quickly.

Sven called me yesterday, but I was too busy to pick the phone. Will call him today to see what can be done fast. His office is not too far from my home. I believe it's in Los Angeles. So maybe I can drive there and exchange for the RemoteTop.

Just my thoughts on handling this.....

Why don't you have everyone verify who has a mistaken order. Directly ship each of us the correct part with a return printed and prepaid shipping label to return the incorrect item. It sounds a bit laborious and to have people directly communicating with another party and haggling back and forth between everyone involved. IE; ship me the proper one, I will drop the old one back in the box and hand it to the driver. Done!

Anyone subscribe to that idea? I personally don't think we should have to do anymore that sign for, swap parts in the box and hand off. I do appreciate the great deal and am very ok with the term, "**** happens", but lets make it very simple and fast to adjust. My .02.

That would be the ideal process but unfortunately that can't be done unless I charge the customers credit card for the replacement unit and then issue a credit once the incorrect unit is sent back and received. The reason for this is, not saying that it would happen but there are people out there who would or could easily receive the correct unit and not return the incorrect unit. Sven wants everyone to send back their units to me and return all the incorrect units at the same time to him for exchange, I dont agree with this because it takes too long. You have delivery time from customer to GMP and deliver time from GMP to Manufacturer, Back to GMP and then back to the customer. If Sven doesnt agree to my solution above, what I might be able to do to cut down on delivery time is order all the correct units from Sven so that they are here at GMP waiting to be shipped to the customers that need to make an exchange once the incorrect units are returned. We are not talking about 20 customers here just 3 or 4 were shipped incorrectly which is why I suggest my originaly solution to Sven.

FYI I know every customer already that needs to make an exchange.
