Front spoiler/lip

Has anyone seen a 996 with the VIS carbon fiber front bumper spoiler? Can anyone post a picture of a car with this piece? Thanks

IMO, it seems a waste to get a front lip in CF for anything other than show use. It will be munged after a few weeks of driving because they scrape all the time.
Get the OEM GT3 cup lip, on a stock bumper it looks really nice and holds up well to damage.

There's one up for grabs in the FS section:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...d.php?t=121924

Barring that, call Sunset Porsche and ask for parts availability for the MK1 GT3 front lip spoiler. I think there are two types, a thinner one and a larger cup spoiler. Neither is expensive.

I suggest installing it with screws / fender washers instead of the plastic push pins. Search here for "GT3 lip spoiler" and you'll find my DIY with pics, hardware required, etc. It's a two-beer job.

disagree with ya there.
because they're clear coated, as long as you take steeper things at super angles, you'll be fine. scrapes can be re-clearcoated over after wetsanding.

my buddy had (and still has) a cf lip on his nsx which makes GT2 ride height look like an SUV, and he hasn't mangled it (track days included). care is all that is required.

they look sweet, and i wouldn't mind seeing pictures of the VIS lip.

Well we all have opinions...my TechArt front CF lip shattered driving down the road. No clear coat could save that...I agree with pOrsch3 on this one

My original one that came with the factory aero kit shatterd also. As careful as you realistically try to be...they just don't last. I replaced it with the black sort of rubberized plastic one that FVD makes....perfect fit and it's a bit thinner than the original...so far, I haven't dinged it up except for one operator error hit on getting too close to one of those concrete parking lot stops. The fact I bought my car with the original aero lip on it that was still pristine gave me some confidence that the PO was much more careful than I am.

DeadEye- I *hope* you're not inferring that we're not care-minded with our pcars. c'mon now.. lol.

I suppose it really depends where you live and driving conditions. In LA, streets suck-butt and many driveways have very steep approaches. So even being extremely careful and entering / exiting at 45 degrees, it still scrapes. And I've even raised the car back up 1/2". Oh and don't even get me started on Valet attendants...

Chuck- sorry to hear about your factory lip- that's odd. The GT3 factory lip on mine has been damn bulletproof so far (knock on wood). Good to know about the FVD lip- what was the cost? Have pics?

pOrsch: Actually, I dont' think it was really odd becasue with the number of "strikes" I had, it was it just a matter of time....It was the trip I took up Hwy 1 through the Trinity Alps in NorCal that literally broke the camel's back. Those little towns along the coast that have the tourist mini-malls have a ditch-like entry to channel off rainwater...and after going through a couple of those...even trying to slowly go thru at an angle...the lip finally fractured so I had to take it off and put it in the back for the rest of the trip. I was thinking about having it re-done just for times I might want to "show"...but I really don't go for the show and tell circuit...

The FVD lip came from .....IIRC it was Suncoast Porsche in Florida...at a cost of $350 for the lip and a God awful $120 for shipping UPS. It's the size of the package that jacks up the price...it doesn't weigh more than a couple pounds. I since found that I could have found it at a more amenable geographical location. I'll try to find a picture of it...but I havne't taken too many new pics lately.

p0rsch, great install write-up, thanks.
Curious as to whether the lip has stayed snugged on securely since you've done the install?
Probably a good idea to order a second as a back-up when you first install?
Thx

I called Sunset and was quoted 221.00 plus shipping. Does that seem correct? Also, in my PET disk there only seems to be a thin strip that attaches below the GT3 bumper..is this the part or does the PET disk not have the lip part shown. I guess if someone has a part number I can be sure that I am getting the right one from Sunset. Thanks all for the help.
