i think these kinds of changes make one look like a poser. the only people out there who even know the difference between the 996/997 are going to be aware of the fact that it was a mod. the rest of the population can't tell year models apart.

I like it, but more of as a project, not because you want a 997. A 997 is a much better refined car. I don't find it posing, I think it's really cool. A lot of people do this in Porsche's and many other cars as well. I'd imagine maybe another $1.5K with paint and labor? That's not too bad.

it just seems that the net-net of the situation is making something appear to be something it's not. i think both 996/997s look great in their own regard. I've seen people put "M" badges on 530i, and this doesn't seem to be a whole lot different.

Yeah I agree with the M badges or people that put Type R badges, etc. However if you really like the 997 look, I think it's worth while. What's the difference in power? 5 HP? I could understand if you went with the "Turbo" emblem, that would be posing. The 997 carrera isn't any bit better performing than the 996. I see people go with GT3 styling, as long as you aren't riding around saying yeah it's a GT3, or in this case, yeah it's a 2008, then you're alright. Side by side the 997 is just a better car, if you can afford one, then do it, if not I'd be interested in seeing some pics of this.

every Porsche catalog is filled with whale-tails, wings, fenders, front ends, you name it, every possible fiberglass body style modification anyone ever thought of. 911's to look like SC's, SC's to look like the Carrera, then to a C2 or C4, then to a 993. So whatever makes you happy, just go for it. I agree, at the end of the day it's your car after all. But....... the rear end of the 996 C4S is just awesome. I passed on a 997 just because of that. horsepower is so close. interior, well sure, the 997 is more traditional, but you gotta do what makes you happy. If you've got the bucks to spare, wtf, enjoy it pal.

Saw an ad in "Excellence" magazine, I couldn't find the kit on the website but they sell the 997 GT3 rear for the 996. The also sell the 997 front bumper but it keeps the 996 headlights (99-01). It actually looked pretty good if you like the 997 look but want to keep it true with the 996.

i personally prefer the rear end (tail lights) of the 996 over the 997. this is an unbiased opinion i dont own either one but i like the tails to curve down i think it looks a little more aggressive from the rear.

+1 for the GT3 kit over the 997 mod. I saw a bunch of 996 turbos this weekend at Hereshy and boy are they nice. I go that way if you can swing it.
