Front lip installed and track update
Front lip installed and track update
I installed the prefacelift gt3 lip (aero kit chin spoiler) on my 99 996. I used the guide on 6speedonline.

At past track events, the car felt floaty at 100mph+ w/o the front lip. Took the car out to Reno Fernley this weekend and got the car up past 115mph down the front straight. With the lip installed the car was VERY stable and gave me a lot of confidence going into the first set of esses. I didn't have to slow down much if at all. Before the lip, I'd have to slow the car down a little get the car stable. This is great mod and I highly recommend. It's a cheap mod that scores high in the stability/safety factors.

Not sure if this lip creates any downforce b/c it looks like an air dam to me (straight from top to bottom). The 997 gt3 and the 996 cup lips, on the other hand, both look like they go out a bit and have an angle to them. It's possible that they can generate some down force. I'm sure someone else can chime in on this with more info.
I take some more pics tonight and post them. I have a stock 99 front bumper (non aero) and the lip installed w/o much issue. I also helped my friend do the install on his 99 c4 (also non aero).
I believe that the lip isn't creating as much down force as it is reducing the amount of air flowing under the car.

Here are some pics. Excuse the dirt/grime. I didn't get a chance to clean the car after track this past weekend.
Here are the part numbers (sunset imports...talk to Jeff)
GT3 MK1 Cup Front Splitter (996-505-986-90) @ $176 ea
MK1 Aero front splitters (996-505-986-00) @ 59.37 ea
As you can tell I scuffed the lip not more than 30 mins after driving the car for the first time after the install. I'm glad I didn't go for the $176 version
Also, I think the cup splitter may work better with the a wing in the rear. The version I have, I think, just stops the air from making the front end float at speed.
