One reason I HATE owning a Porsche

Parts, I picked up a Vortech full kit with aftercooler, fuel pump, fuel management unit, all hoses, etc. $1150, it's for a B series Honda. I'm building a Integra GS-R for the track (easy to work on, cheap parts, and you can beat the hell out of them). Honestly I might look into piecing something together for the Porsche. Hoses are cheap, custom charge pipes are cheap, and I could get all the parts at autozone. I just would need to find sometype of engine management and someone who knew how to tune Porshce's. I already have the 3rd radiator kit.

Agreed, you should be able to piece together a kit for the 996 for a reasonable price. You would also need to look into larger fuel injectors or some other method of fueling the setup.

Yeah, honestly, I can get injectors from Bosch and pretty much anything else I need for a few hundred bucks. Anyone have a detailed layout of a vortech kit for the 996, or an install guide?

hmmmm.. jon I see a project in our future.

I have done a ton of research on this myself. Hardest hurdle is getting a proper way to mount it in and then the pulley itself to drive it appropriately at 6psi up to 10 psi (basically following what everyone else has already done).

I know a tuner or 2 that can do this remotely w/o too much probs.

There is a guy here named "Mother" that did one himself. He has pics off his user id on a website.

Let's chat sometime.

Mothers project was long and tough.... He started with lower cost turbos and burnt those up. Ran into issues with tuning the engine and ending up killing the original one I think.

This is not as easy as one think. Now a supercharger is definitely easier.

you should consider removing the word hate from your vocab - it's a rather harsh word

it's not so much porsche you should "hate" ... it's the low volume and the already high performance it's got and its upper models got that makes forced induction kits a non-factor, low volume seller --> higher prices

Unnecessary though, you get the same quality kit with identical parts. Tuners know they can't sell as many so their margins are much better when their for a Porsche.

I don't have enough money to buy a TT or I'd have one.

well the TT is a different beast... it's outright powerful, but you get the typical non-linear attitude of a turbo engine (i.e. lag)

with your SC.. you get the instant throttle response, rwd, lighter weight, and additional power.

As for Mother, I am pretty sure he didn't try to turbo 1st and blow a motor as a result. His motor did die shortly after he got the SC running but it was a typical IMS failure (or similar didn't search to confirm).

AFAIK no one on this thread is talking about a DIY turbo install... DIY SC yes.

Talk to 1999Porsche911, it think he has a rather "twaeked" kit on his car and he may be able to give you some guidance at the P-Car level with that kit. As far as the Vortech, I can tell just about anything you ever wanted to know about the Vortech and getting its full potential, took that kit to well over 500hp and 11psi and a BMW.

I think you are mixing me up wtih someone else. Turbo's would be out unless I wished to drop the compression of the engine. Mine uses a standard Vortec V2 SC which can be used safley and with FVD doing the tuning via a WIFI connection to the net, there tuners are in germany and can create a fuel MAP to whatever I wish to put in the car. My engine did fail but it was due to a IMS failure and am now breaking in the new engine before continuing the tune.
