the car does look good! but the dealer situation is a little weird. (is this Newport Porsche???? Ha!) Sounds like a walk-away situation.

I bought my C4S from an exclusively consignments dealer. I was able to contact the seller to discuss the car, at the dealers suggestion. I wonder how long this particular car has been on consignment and when the current arrangement ends. You might be able to contact the seller directly after that.

But, as others have noted, if you're hot for a turbo, walk, and look around... good luck

c2mojo,

The car is northern california.
I'm still in the midst of thinking about it. If I decline, I'll pass it on. I got them down to $46.5. The interior is a bit worn. If anyone gets it, I suggest getting new interior trims.
I think I'd be better off dealing directly with the seller but in this case, there is the dealer in-between.

I've browsed some ads on porsche CPO, autotrader, and ebay. I'm better off expanding my search nationally. I'd fly into Florida if I find the right car.
At this point, I figure, I'd rather spend $55-60K for an 2003 996 TT. I prefer the glove box and additional new stuff. I also like the Technique interior shifter/handbrake.

I havent discounted the idea of a C4S if the price is right (40K or less). I'll probably be happy with a C4S. The speed of the TT is otherwordly but the C4S is more than fast for me.

I started from $27K; entertaining the idea of cheap 1999 to 2001 3.4 996. After my research, I moved my budget up to $35K for '02 C2s w/ the 3.6. However, after a few cars that failed PPIs and the impending fear of RMS,
the Turbos look like a more compelling buy to me. If settle for something I don't like, I could see myself reselling a car in 6 months to a year;taking a hit on depreciation. I've bumped my budget up 3 times since my 'hunt.'

I figure the turbos have flattened out in the depreciation curve. You're not going to see a turbo for 30K anytime soon. So if it takes me 3-4 months, it will be ok with me. My porsche savings fund gets bigger every day.

Also, with the economy, fear of recession, and newer 997 MK2s, there is a strong change the 02-03 TTs will drop a little more. Who knows, they could be $55K for mint low 30K miles by December. That is my hope.

Get a TT. Better engine. But don't think for a second the 996 TT's have hit the bottom of the depreciation curve. As C2's fall, so will the C4S and the TT. I've been following closely what these cars have been doing for the past year, and they've come down around 10% accross the board with this late spring and early summer seeing the most drastic movement.

FYI guys i came across this looking for a c4s. Nice price and the car looks very nice.

01 black/black turbo 34K miles selling for $52.5K

I'm starting to think I should scrap the idea of getting a c4s as well and save a little more and hope the prices come down more. I should be able to step into a TT.

Definitely a TT but like everyone else has said, you have to hunt for a deal and lower miles! They are out there!

$55k seems high for a C4S. I have a 2003 C4S CPO 20k I will gladly sell you much cheaper than that!

I agree it is way off from my searches. The NADA value when I ran it was 47,300 I believe for a car with your specs.

Again the TT is the only way to go, its not just Turbos and the air scoops, they are two totally different cars, The C4S is a nice car, but its no TT.The natural progression for allot of Porsche owners is to own a NA car then the TT, save your self the money and get the right car the first time.

a low mile 01-02 turbo is the obvious choice over a 03+ c4s. However, I would take a low mile clean c4s over a turbo with 50k on it. And I dont care if the turbo goes 200k miles, I wouldnt want one with 50k miles that I didnt put on it.
