Someone help my dad please, he is very new here!

I tried doing a search but no luck, i thought it was a matter of putting the key in the ignition and using the lock unlock button on the dash to reset after goin into powersave mode when the car sits for extended periods with the security system armed.

Cheers, David

Without being condescending, did you try fresh batteries?

My remote just stopped working one day, think it got squashed in my pocket... Had to get a new transmitter from Porsche, about $150 (£75UK). Try the battery first though, is it both keys or just the one?

in case you didn't know, after 6 or 7 days, the car goes to "sleep" to save the battery. as far as i know, it should reset after you manually enter and start the car.

my 2000 boxster S went out on me. it was a problem with the brain inside the vehicle and i found was somewhat of a chronic problem with porsches. the dealer wanted $140 to just diagnose the problem and guessed it would be many hundreds to fix so i just did it the old school way and sold the car as is.

replace the battery in the fob. if youre lucky it will fix it!

Thanks guys, I am aware of the sleep mode after prolonged periods of no use. I thought there was a specific manual sequence to cycle the security system again, I know it has happened in the past but cant remember what was done to make it function again.

Dad will have to try replacing the battery for starters.

You may need to reset the immobilizer. Disconnect the neg. terminal of the battery for 5 min. Before you do please have your radio code so you can get the radio working again. Also, under the driver's seat is where the DME seated, there is a fuse for it you might want to check if the fuse blown. The pain is to remove the seat partially and tilt the front back so you can access to the box.

First to reset the sleep mode...simply unlock the car manually and then hit the remote unlock within ~10 seconds. Second to reset the key fob, take the battery out, install reverse polarity for 15 seconds, then reinstall properly. Third if these resets do not work, you may ned to get the stealer to do some re-programming.

This happens to me every week. I manually unlock the doors and once its out of sleep mode, it works again.
