how narrow of a tire can i get away with?

whats up fellas, after years of my dad egging me on to get a 911 (too impractical for me) he finally just gave in and got one for himself! i've personally put myself in charge of it's upkeep. it currently has 19" WORK wheels all around, the rear tires need replacing

currently the rear tire is a 305-25-19

now my question is, looking at those pictures, can i go with a narrower tire? i was wanting to go with a 295/30/19 just to get more ride comfort back in addition to bringing the gearing back to stock

what do you guys think?

great looking car! first off, how wide are the rear wheels? this will help determine how wide or narrow of a tire you can go.

thanks for the kind words! unfortunately i dont know the width of the wheels. WORK makes the 19" version of this wheel in so many widths, ranging from 10 inches to 12.5 inches. i was hoping you guys could make a good estimate just looking at the pictures. i'm hoping i can get away with a 295mm tire without stretching it too much.

if it came with 305s, it might be an 11" wheel. usually with a 10" most people would use 295s. going from 305/25 to a 295/30 is going to give you a 1" taller combo. if you're not worried about the difference in tire height, then i would suggest going with 305/30. it's only ~.1" taller than a 295/30. plus if your wheels are 11" in the rear, it will look perfect and not too stretched(295s on 11").

are you saying a 295 tire would be stretched on the wheel? i'd prefer to reduce the tire width because my father is a novice driver and the car kind of tracks along road imperfections. i know the 295-30 tire will be taller, but it will actually bring the gearing back to stock in addition to giving a little more ride comfort

thanks for the help!

Stick with the 305s, and as mentioned before I am pretty sure the wheel would be an 11 inch.

On a 911, you can never have too much rear rubber..

personally, i think 295 on an 11" wheel will look too stretched. i prefer to use 305 minimum. some brand/model of tires are known to track more road imperfections than others, usually the front tires will do this. the alignment can affect this as well. for example, i never liked using pirelli tires b/c of this issue. my old set of p-zero would follow every groove on the road. once i switched to michelin tires, the tracking feeling was gone.

I have 305/30/19s; chose them over the 305/25s with an 11" rim.

Is your car lowered or on stock suspension?

oh thats good to know, i was worried about rubbing if i went with a taller tire at the same width, do you have any rubbing issues?

i think my car is at stock height, but (it might be the low profile tires) my ride is pretty stiff even though i've never ridden in a stock 996, i've looked under the car and they def. arent aftermarket but they might be porsche sport suspension

what do you guys think>?

No rubbing issues. Several people on the board are running the 305/30s. The difference is in the offsets; I am running a 67mm offset in the rear. I think the correct range for 11" rims is in the 65-67mm range

Your car does look lowered on the side pics. If the shocks are stock, then it may have lowering springs?

305/25 is your best bet specification wise... comfort wise 295/30 is the best, highest % diameter error is 305/30 but wiil give you both rubber and comfort..

As Redridge pointed out your current setup is closest to spec. gearing.

I have 295/30-19's on 10.5" rims. They come nice to edge of the rim. I have noticed a ride difference in the rear after moving from 275/35-19s. I have not noticed any gearing diff.

If your offests allow the 305/25s then I would stick with them.
