thinking about ditching the 911

Im seriously considering selling my 02 911 and getting an e55. Im absolutely in love with my 911 but my cash is wearing out.

The reason for this is mainly for cash savings...my car for a certified 05 e55 is pretty much an even trade. And If I had an e55 it could be my one and only car, where as now I also have a Qx4 i drive when an occassion calls for more than one passenger or cargo. Also, since a travel a lot, im paying $130/month for a storage garage that i keep the 911 in. (It also goes in there on rainy days)

But on the other hand the e55 is not a 'drivers' car. and i like to think that im a driving enthusiast, and i fear that ill be incredibly disconnected from the driving experiance when compared to the 911 ,

but running around beating zo6's/turbo's in a 4 door benz would also be pretty sweet

any thoughts?

e55 ain't going to kill z06s and TTs. Sounds like you have cars you really can't afford. Get something you can comfortably afford, save up and get what you love later.

How about an s4? They can be had pretty cheaply and the 340 hp and space in addition to the Audi interior everyone loves may be the answer. Plus you get QUATTRO.

sell the '02 and pick up an '05 CPO or '06 997. Prices are LOW right now for clean low-mi cars. You'll have warranty plus driving fun. -That's what I did.
I can't see trading out for an E55- That's a totally different type of car.

cash savings? if that was true why wouldn't you consider something more economical like a Prius? doesn't E55 average like 15mpg?

i can pretty much guarantee you you're not goin to love the E55. it's a nice car, fast in the straights, but sounds like any other nice sedan, looks like all the other e-classes no matter how you modify it... and the problem with cars like these... i call 'em the Mrs. Jones cars. you gotta have the newest and latest else it starts feeling dated and old even if it really isn't.

the weird thing about the E55 is... for all that money it costs new... it doesn't even have a stitched leather dash. the ****'s plastic rubbery stuff that you can find in your c-class.

the reason why the 911 is the one you can readily admit you LOVE is... it's the only car make/model where it keeps its qualitative aka sentimental value for a long time. how? it's got mad heritage and a lot of passionate owners buying them up. it just doesn't get old. i mean look at the 964 turbo. still looks gangster to this day.

why not a BMW 335? Solid, fun drivers car and probably less coin than an e55

all these things are the debate thats going on in my head. The 335i wouldn't actually be a bad idea.

your absolutely right though, i know that after a month or so im going to be wishing i didn't sell this 911. I got a crazy deal on it if you consider the options and I would never find another like it. (full leather, 6spd, psm, bose, alpine sat/ipod, orient red, new heavy duty clutch, lightened fly, shortshifter) Driving it is just so fun.

Hmm...

Listen man, if cash is tight, you gotta do what's right. (how'd that sound?? I rehearsed it a little)

Seriously, ridding yourself of your 911 and trading for an E55 will not only NOT improve your cash position (even under warranty, stuff will come up with the Benz, and they are JUST as expensive to maintain), but it will make you feel like an idiot for having gotten rid of your 911 in the first place. If you need to do it, do it for something a little more cost-effective (used 3-series ALWAYS a good idea)

That's good advice, whoever gave it.

Good luck.

i have both a 2004 4S and an S55 AMG, just keep in mind, you may kill them in the straight away, but turns is a completely different items

also, unless you plan to get a new one, the supercharged ///AMGs really do not age well. mine is still under extended warranty but i've had soooo many items replaced. ball joints, engine mounts, suspension bits here and there.... oh yea, the wheels... be prepared to repair bent wheels and having cracks on the inside lips on all 4 wheels.. and that's on stocker 18" wheels!!!

just to share
